I don't pay close attention to the number of discs in my TV sets, but if I were counting them out... I'd consider each series one title. Maybe per season on some things.

For titles with child profiles, I mark the overall Box as counting for none, but each child entry, whether it's a season or a disk, counts as one.
I'm consistent, as far as DVDProfiler will let me be...many titles don't have any child profiles [Home Movies], some are by season, and one [Powerpuff girls 30th] somehow has two season 2s and no season 3 in the child profiles.

I was going over my collection and noticed some things. Like the 4 Film Favorites: Chris Tucker Collection. No matter how you look at this it only counts as 1. Yet it has six films on it.

Those last two are short. They are Rebecca Gayhearts first two films. But they are included and even have commentary options. All of these films have their extras and everything. But on two flipper disc. It could count as 1 DVD / 2 disc / 6 films. So if you really care about your DVD count I suggest avoiding multi-packs and collections like this. If you bought the four films individually then you'd have the cases and they'd count as 4! The two shorts are still on RH1 and RH2 disc, BTW.

Triple Feature: Psycho II / Psycho III / Psycho IV - The Beginning sort of perplexes me a bit. Psycho II is the same as the single release. But the disc is missing the disc art. Painted simply blue. III & IV are crammed onto a single sided disc. Bare bones. So since II is fully on here should this be considered a Double feature as in it counts as 2? II being a full disc same as single release and then III / IV as a double feature?

Martian Successor Nadesico: Volume 2 - Essential Anime Collection - This is really Vol. 3 and 4 of the single releases. So does that mean this counts as 2? The picture quality was made sharper, subtitles redone, and extras added like commentary. So they are altered from the single releases. But both disc are in there. Numbered Vol. C and Vol. D. So should this count as 2 in a pack or 1?

It really does get confusing. So many DVDs are packaged differently. So many odd ones (multi-packs, triple features, double features, ect,.) it can be hard to accurately count your collection.

What if all of these box sets with 3 to 6 slim DVDs in a box set end up getting sold separately? Like Duck Tales Volumes 1-3 (Each has 3 slim cases inside a box set.). What if Disney decides to sell each slim case on it's own? Then we'd have Duck Tales Volumes 1-9. Would our collections counting them as only 3 box sets have to change to 9?

Okay I am going to stop pondering all of this and do something more constructive with my time. However, I am reconsidering these multi-packs and 4 Film Favorites. I think I'd rather have Superman 1-4 as four stand alones rather than as one from the 4 Film Favorites.

Edit: Thunderbirds Sets. We got two-pack box sets here in the US. You get two volumes (Each in their very own DVD cases) in a box set. Yet these were sold stand alone in other countries. So I think I'll count these as 2 each and not as 1 box set.

When I used to count my CD collection I would count each disc. Box sets were the number of discs in it and etc. With DVD/Blu-Rays, I count the titles in my collection. I created an Excel spreadsheet for listing my collection where I have a separate column for the number of discs in each set but I've been too lazy to complete it.

But I see nothing wrong with counting each disc in a collection. If it's a TV season and each disc represents about two hours of viewing time or more that's like the equivalent of separate movie discs in each set.

I count TV season sets as 1 item. Whats the consensus on something like The Larry Sanders Show-Complete Series, 1 item or the number of individual seasons it contains?

Pee-Wee's Playhouse: Volume 1 (5 discs)
+ The Prisoner: Complete Series (10 discs)
+ Tripping The Rift: Season 1 (3 discs)

= 3 DVDs (18 discs total)

People count "discs"? I count them as "titles."

I don't even really count TV seasons at all. When someone asks me how many DVD's I have, I tell them the number of movies I have, plus a bunch of TV shows.
