I don't know if anyone else noticed, or if I'm late to the game, but it seems that Criterion has reduced it's DVD base prices. The Magician DVD is MSRP for $24.95 and the 2 disc titles this time round are at $29.95.
Interesting, though it mostly doesn't help me as I am Blu-ray now.

Criterions hold their value more than almost any other DVDs or Blu-rays (in-print and OOP). Blind buying a few of these, especially at the Barnes & Noble sale going on right now, won't result in a huge loss on your investment should you decide you don't like them and want to sell them. My own collection is admittedly small because the Toronto library system has over 450 Criterions available to sign out (including most of the OOP ones), but whenever I've upgraded one of my owned Criterion DVDs to Blu-ray, I've sold the DVD version on Amazon marketplace for anywhere from $25 - $40. People will pay a fair price for them, especially if they know the seller is a collector who looks after their stuff. Most other DVDs are like cars; they start depreciating (and quickly!) the moment you leave the store, but not Criterions.

Kind of figured Paths Of Glory would get a release when they announced they had struck a licensing agreement with MGM. First time I saw this was on a Criterion Laserdisc- and it was one of the best blind buys I ever made. Bare bones though, so this Bd will be a nice improvement all around.

I'll be in for the Bergman and Kubrick for sure. Already have the R2 House which doesn't look like it needs replacing. Darjeeling might be down the road.

The R2 house definitely needs replacing, especially if you are HD capable. Different extras! I'll take both, please!

I really would like to see The Magician and I want to buy House. One of the weird horror flicks that I've never seen and am really looking forward to. It's about damn time, too.

So as I'm looking at Criterions - is there any way to really predict which of their older titles will come out on blu? There are plenty of older films in the collection I'd like but I don't want to get them if there is a chance of it coming out in HD.
Of course lately it looks like there are plenty of quality blu-ray titles to keep one busy.
As to the topic at hand, I haven't gotten the Anderson title yet because I was hoping for this release. I wasn't as enamored of the film in theaters as the previous Wes Anderson films which I love, but I'll definitely get this - as well as House and The Magician as they both sound very intriguing. Kubrick is a no brainer for me - never gotten around to seeing this movie but I'm very excited about it.

Hey Criterion.....can u give it a rest with Wes Anderson films? For Christ sakes! RUSHMORE is the only one that is decent.
Why don't u just release FANTASTIC MR. FOX and get it over with.

As far as Week End goes, I may be out of the loop, but I thought Criterion hadn't gotten the rights to it.
If you don't like Anderson's films, don't buy them. The rest of us will enjoy these releases.

I love Wes Anderson's movies for their style and fascinating characters. And he has great soundtracks.
Looking forward to House and Darjeeling.
Guessing this means Antichrist will be a November release.

I am a Wes Anderson fan yet did not connect with Darjeeling LTD. I'll probably end up buying the new set just for completeness sake, but its not a particular favorite of mine. Maybe that will change in time.

I don't know how many times you tried to watch it, but the first time through I didn't care much for it. I decided to give it a second spin a while later after I saw Fantastic Mr. Fox (and LOVED IT!) and I really thought I should watch Darjeeling again just to give it a second try. I REALLY enjoyed it MUCH more the second time around. I can't wait to get it on Blu-Ray!
