Family Guy Volume confusion?

First of all, why oh why do they have to be released in volumes. If volume one contained season 1 and season 2,then call it season 1 and season 2. Ok-here's my question. I bought V1,V2 and V3 from R2 and then I bought V5 from R1. So does that mean I have them all in order or am I missing episodes? I went to wikipedia and came away more confused than ever.

Yeah, for some reason they've decided to make it confusing as hell. But yeah, you are missing episodes, specifically all of season 4. You need to either buy R1 sets V3 and V4 or R2 sets V4 and V5. Good luck!

Re: Family Guy Volume confusion?

I could be wrong, but I think that the R1 US dvd sets are in volumes (parts of multiple seasons) and all other regions are Season sets.

They are labelled as "Seasons" outside the US & Canada but it's still the same randomness of mixing seasons into volumes.

Ex: "Season 7" in R2 is actually some remaining episodes from Season 5 and then the first 8 of season 6.

vmars is correct, you are missing the entire 4th season currently. You can get it by buying either Volume 3 and Volume 4 in R1 or "Season 4" and "Season 5" in R2.

Region 2 Volume 3 ends with Jungle Love(season 4 part A). Region 1 Volume 5 starts with Stewie Loves Lois. That means that episodes #64 thru #77 should be on Region 1 Volume 4. Episodes #78 ,#79 and #80 were on the straight to dvd release.

The DVDs are released in volumes because season 1 was way too short to be its own release according to FOX. And then they kept producing them in volume sets to correlate with how many episodes FOX ordered at one time. For example: Volume 5 contains the 11 episodes FOX initially ordered for the fifth season, while volume 6 contains the remaining 17 episodes that FOX ordered afterwards (eventhough 4 of them were held off until the sixth season to air).

Region 2 Volume 1 only has the first 14 episodes where Region 1 Volume 1 has the first 28 episodes. Thats what I'm missing(I think). I will just buy Region 1 Volume 1 and throw Region 2 Volume 1 in the garbage.

Why would you do that? Your R2 sets 1 and 2 have all the episodes from the R1 set 1. All you need to buy is R1 sets V3 and V4 or R2 sets V4 and V5 and you'll have the official Family Guy Seasons 1-4.

The people at Fox have been screwing around with these releases. Now they even want to sell the "banned" episode from last season as a separate release.

I hate it when companies do the "volume" thing. No partials, no volumes, no "best of"s; just complete season (or series) sets only please.

I wait until the releases hit $15 or less. $40 CDN for 13-15 episodes is insane when other comedies put 22+ episodes on their releases for around the same price.

Re: Family Guy Volume confusion?

Imagine how "The Simpsons" would have been released had FOX thought of "volumes" before they started releasing that series :-P

Re: Family Guy Volume confusion?

Has anyone bought the newest sets from Best Buy with the Bonus Episodes? I believe it's Vol 8 and American Dad Vol. 5. Each claims to have episodes of FG not released.

Both sets are available in exclusive versions with a digital copy disc of 4 episodes. Other than that disc, the sets are the same everywhere.

I understand that. I am more intersted in which episodes they are since they are making the claim that they are never-before-released. Are they episodes that will be included in future releases?

I can't imagine them never being released. They're a year or so behind in releases so these digital copy bonuses will be part of the next volume or two I bet.

Don't know for sure, hate the shows, someone into them will likely know more. I was just trying to help.

Boy, this is more confusing than that time I used the men's room at the transexual convention.
