I can't stand this movie, but I've double dipped!
Looking at my list I've noticed I've double dipped on many films I don't even like. Some I can't figure out why. Most were an upgrade from laserdisc to dvd-
Cleopatra
Godfather III
Indiana Jones III
Both Bad News Bears Sequels
Star Trek Generations
Alien Vs Predator
Batman Returns
I'm guessing this will be a pretty short thread, probably dominated by sequels upgraded to blu... but... What are your double dips of movies that you don't like?

Um...besides you, who would buy a movie that they don't like. I only have one movie in my collection that I cannot stand in the slightest, Watchmen. I only have that because my brother watched it and didn't want it anymore. I can see why.

Can't think of a single instance in which I've double-dipped on a title I didn't like. In fact, I think even the worst movie in my collection has some kind of redeeming value to it or it wouldn't stay in my collection at all.

I can't imagine purposely buying a movie I don't like twice. Other than making a bad blind buy and then buying a box set filled with good films and one or two crappy ones that I may already have, I can't say that I have.

If I didn't like the movie the 1st time (and removed it from my collection because I didn't want to look at it), I certainly wouldn't buy it again. I don't have 1000's of DVDs where I might forget that I already have something, but it seems to me that I would remember if there was one I didn't like, it would stick in my mind as money NOT well spent. -kd5-

This thread makes my brain hurt. Would could possibly be the rational to buy a movie you don't like. . . . again? Does actually lighting fire to your money harm the environment in some way, so you figured this is a better way to waste your money? Or are you just that dumb.

Yeah, the only reason I can see doing this is bad blind buys [which have happened], received as gifts, or parts of a set, or bought for a family member who does like it [I have a few of these]. Even the bad blind buys, I try to get rid of asap.

Yeah, I thought this thread would take a turn for the worst. I bought Godfather III as part of a laserdisc box, then the complete epic, then dvd box. Bad news Bears, same deal, had it on laserdisc, then picked up the dvd box that had all three movies. Alien vs Predator upgraded to unrated version. Generations for special features... So I'm not so crazy..... C'mon someone out there has to have done it too, but you have all scared them away!

I can't remember who it was, but when Ghost Rider came out one poster said he hated the movie but bought 6 copies of it on release day because they had different covers.

Not a movie I couldn't stand, but I did double dip on The 6th Day years ago and I still don't know why I felt like I needed more bonus features for that film.

The thread was really inspired by the Blu-ray release of Magnificent Seven. I don't care for the sequels, but it's only released in a set right now.... My dilemma is do I buy the set, I LOVE the first film... or wait it out for an individual release... I'm sure others upgraded their Godfather dvds to BD before the individual release and don't like part III...

Re: I can't stand this movie, but I've double dipped!
I will probably get shit for this, since I take a lot of shit for not liking this movie, but I double-dipped on "The Exorcist." I wouldn't say I can't stand it, but I definitely think it's overrated. I just appreciate what it did for the horror genre, and the other movies it influenced, so it felt weird not having it in my collection, so I bought the VHS from a video store in town when it closed down, and then I bought the DVD off ebay because I had the second and third movies on DVD and it felt weird only having the first one on VHS (I actually like the third...not a fan of the second, but at the time I hadn't seen it and since I owned the first and third on DVD I wanted to get the second, so I bought it used).

Doesn't Trevor buy every movie on release day or something? I'm sure he has double or triple dipped on titles he'll never even watch.

I rebought A Room with a View for the 16x9 upgrade, and I couldn't stand that one, but it was for the wife. I rebought Star Trek Nemesis for the special features and so I would have all the 2 disc editions as a matched set.
Unless it's someone else in the house that likes it, it gets put on half.com.

I've bought a few movies I don't like mainly to complete a series of movies, I am a completist.
I've bought Halloween III & Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers just to complete the series, but I hate both of those movies.
I own Beyond Re-Animator but that movie sucks, however that was a blind buy.

Guess some people just have too much money. I tend not to buy stuff that I hate. I would NEVER buy something twice that I hate. I would be willing to help the OP stop this nasty habit. Next time you see yourself double dipping on a movie you hate, just send me the money instead.
Problem solved.
