I'm happy for any fans of this movie, but I saw it back when we still used to hear about it fairly often as a hip and edgy movie, and I didn't get anything out it then. I'll sit this one out.

I'm quite surprised that many people think this is a strange Criterion choice. I don't think it's strange at all. I think it's very worthy precisely because it's a cult film and mostly forgotten today. Part of Criterion's mission has always been to re-release the overlooked, not just the well-known, from the past, to unearth the lesser-known works of well-known as well as less familiar directors..
It is a film I also like very much. I've never been a huge fan of Griffith, but I think her offbeat and yes, sometimes irritating screen persona is exactly right for this role. You keep wondering how far Daniels will let her push him. Then Liotta shows up, and whoever said his performance is terrifying is right on. Goodfellas is a masterpiece, Something Wild is not, but his Henry Hill almost looks like Santa Claus compared to the guy he plays here.
I rented this movie on VHS years ago and that's how I got turned onto it. I have the MGM DVD and would be very interested in a Criterion upgrade, BD even better.

I'd rather see a Criterion for this flick. I was surprised that Body Double didn't do better. (Not to mention that both actresses were extremely hot.) i also thought that of Carpenter's The Thing when it was first released but that was the summer of ET and folks wanted their aliens cute and cuddly, not monstrously evil. Another reason to be grateful for DVDs as it has given plenty of great films a second chance to be discovered.

This is a great film, very underrated. And that soundtrack! Any film that can have both The Feelies and Jean Michel Jarre is a classic.
