I doubt you could get me to watch that again anytime soon. At least not until I've watched every other film I own at least twice.

Supernatural is more even. The beginning has a series of 'monster of the week' episodes, but even those are fun. It's a favorite at my house.

Thanks! I loved all of Kolchak back in the 70s and the X-Files motw episodes, so they will likely be my favorites. I'll watch Sanctuary if I finish my other goals, if only to get my blind buy's moneys worth and then sell them.

You finally killed off Monk. Can't recognize you anymore.

So I guess we're just under 4 hours until lift-off.

Still have enough time to finish 2 more for the History challenge and then it's off to drown myself in another set of genres.

This year I have most of the stuff written down so I can kind of plan it out a bit. It's not exact, because I have no idea how much time I will have on a given day, but it should help. I really want to finish the text commentaries on the Star Trek movies.

Same here. I can't imagine how many wasted hours I've spent staring at my collection during the previous challenges over the years. For this challenge I've written down everything I plan to watch and will be plugging them into a random generator. And with the exception of Netflix titles, which take first priority, I'm watching in the order the 'List Randomizer' gives me. No more indecisiveness for this guy.

Yep, made up a reason in one of your other threads. ;)

I'm pretty excited about my Godzilla marathon, hope all my orders get here in time. Should sleep tonight, but plan to stay up till midnight and get one in.

This is what I have planned - Red Dwarf, Quark, The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, Jason Of Star Comand & throw in a few movies like Barbarella, Sleeper, The Rock Horror Picture Show, Plan 9 From Outer Space, Innerspace, Godvilla Vs. The Smog Monster & Star Wars (Original Theatrical Version).

About half the challenges I do, I'll make a list and then 98% of the time I never even do the first movie. 1% of the time I do it. 1% of the time I'll start it but then get in the mood for other things.

It almost feels like a chore if I'm forcing myself to watch certain things I've planned ahead of time because I usually start thinking about other things I'd rather be watching.

I will admit that I'm 100% hooked/addicted on doing the checklists at icheckmovies right now. What it doesn't help is that I buy the sort of stuff I normally buy but now I'm buying stuff for these lists and not watching the other things.

This is my third challenge and I thought I would do a little bit better if I plan everything out. It will take 72 movies to complete the challenge so if I can do that and watch a few series (Torchwood, Highlander, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and maybe some Xena) I will have a great month. Trying to do the challenge will force me watch a real variety of movies and should keep everything interesting.

Woo-hoo! Time to rev up the 'ol DVD player. But first I have to stare at my DVDs a little more and decide what I'm in the mood for.....

Work in the morning so I don't think I'll be up to a movie tonight but I'll probably pop on an episode of real ghostbusters.

Well after all this talk and hype, I think that I might have to join in this little soirée. I don't know how active I'll be, probably start with a bang and then slowly burn out towards the end. I guess the key would either be to stay focused with a particular show and watch as much as you can, or watch a variety of things to keep it interesting. My question for you guys is whether completing the checklist is worth the effort or to just watch whatever I feel like. I guess my personal goal shall be 100 entries which shouldn't be that hard since I cancelled cable 2 weeks ago. Good luck all.

I tend to be super excited for this challenge leading up to it, then get distracted a few weeks in, but I'm hoping this year with the addition of fantasy and a tentative list of what I want to watch I will be better.

I am going to finally finish (or probably restart) rewatching season 7 of Buffy, I was on a really good roll with this show and had rewatched season 1-6 before I found my first challenge here a few years ago, and haven't gotten back to it. Watch all of Roswell, I had watched this off and on when it was on and remember liking it, but now that all 3 seasons are on netflix streaming I don't have an excuse not to watch. Catch up with True Blood, and throw in some movies.

have to say ,both of those are my favorite books by Edgar Rice Burroughs. They just did a remake of The Land that Time Forgot too that's on my unwatched list!

My usual plan of action is to watch what I want and check whatever it happens to cover. Later on I sometimes get in the mood to focus on it. So pretty much I just watch what I feel like, otherwise it's just become a chore.

That math isn't adding up, since we've only had maybe 20 Challenges here. Are you cheating on us with another forum?

I got addicted to that site for one day, but pulled out before it was too late. I deleted the bookmark and shredded my password. I can not afford another addiction right now. It was so good though.....

When you say "complete/do the challenge", are you meaning the checklist?

When doing the checklist, I'm almost always able to find something that qualifies that I actually enjoy, or want to watch for a first time. But then, I'm very easy to please, and have a large collection.

Welcome, and good luck! Above all, remember that its all for fun, and that the camaraderie here is the main purpose; so if it feels like a chore maybe one needs to step back and change gears.

I altered the checklist to suit my own preferences: John Agar instead of Daniel Radcliffe because I watch 50s sci-fi and I don't want to watch Harry Potter movies, and "Watch a sci-fi or fantasy musical" instead of "Watch a film based on a video game" because movies based on video games have all been awful, so far.

Sorry that was so confusing, yes, I was referring to the checklist. If I can complete it without any duplicates it should make for an interesting (and fun) month.

Don't forget that there's 3 wildcards to use on the checklist.

edit: I also want to warn against changing the checklist if you're making an attempt to complete it for the extra entry to win prizes.

Would Get Smart be allowed as a Wild Card? I would like to use it to cover the spy-fu requirement but the only rationalization I can use is that Hymie is an android.

Ok, I guess I should have figured out what you meant on my own. 72 items on the checklist?! Wow, I think I'm out, will stick with my simple plan.

I counted 68, I may have to go verify my spreadsheet. I edited it with what I thought was changed from last year, but maybe I should do a whole copy/paste. (oh, I see one I missed, decade 2010).

I usually don't let the checklist dictate what I watch, but once in a while it will help me make a decision. I know I won't be watching a Criterion title because I only have 20-30 of those and I want to save them for the September Criterion Challenge.

I don't care about prizes--this challenge is supposed to be fun, and making me watch a Harry Potter movie or some stupid video game adaptation that I would hate is not my idea of fun. I plan on watching entertaining, old school sci-fi movies, primarily from the 50s, and I changed items that I will never watch to ones that I will. You can have Daniel Radcliffe; I'll stick with John Agar.

I have the same number of items on the checklist as everyone else, and I am only using one movie per item, so that I hope to have 72 unique titles (69+3 Wild Cards) on the checklist.
