The Warlords 6/29

For those fans of Red Cliff ( like me ) get ready for The Warlords.
This movie preview was on the Red Cliff DVD and looks really good.
Jet Li stars. This is a definite pick up on release day. In the same
Red Cliff fashion.

Saw the trailer on the Red Cliff BD and was immediately intrigued. Thanks for the release info!

If you can't wait, it's been available in Hong Kong, Australia, and the UK for a long long time. The Hong Kong disc has English for the extras too.

Yeah, I have seen the European versions being offered but i'm going to
wait for the 6/29 release. Maybe i'll be able to get in another viewing of Red Cliff
before then too.

After receiving this dvd and watching it I must say that it was a bit of a let down. Not enough battle scenes to hold this up to high praise. It was ok, but not as good as i hyped this one out to be. i was disappointed.

WARLORDS is a war movie, not a kung fu movie. And it's about the effects of war on a man's soul and on his friendships. I thought Jet Li gave a great performance, the best I've seen him give, playing a cold-blooded character who sacrifices his relationship with his sworn brothers for power and what he thinks is a justifiable cause. It's quite a powerful film when you focus on the characters and the relationships. It's very different from its inspiration, Chang Cheh's BLOOD BROTHERS (1973), which is more of a traditional kung fu film and not as deep as WARLORDS (but still quite entertaining). I bought the Hong Kong R3 DVD a couple of years ago and that's what I watched. It's got tons of extras including about an hour of "Making of" segments that are English-subtitled and feature interviews with the four main actors and the action director, Ching Siu-Tung, as well as other personnel. The other special features, "The Warlords' Blog" and "117 Days: A Production Journal," are in Mandarin and Cantonese, depending on who's speaking, but don't have subtitles.

However, I still prefer the North American cut of RED CLIFF.

I understand your points. First of all, I wasn't looking for a Kung Fu movie. I was looking for a war movie, which this is. I just would of liked more battles in it. Sometimes it takes a few viewings of a movie for it to sink in as a great movie. This maybe one example of that. Maybe I have been spoiled a bit by Red Cliff which is an excellent movie to base Warlord upon. I'll have to view Warlords a few more times and maybe it will catch on with me, or maybe it won't.
