Vampire Circus, Twins of Evil, Hands of the Ripper - Synapse is Releasing
I can't believe it! After all these years! And possibly on Blu-ray, too.
From Fangoria: http://www.fangoria.com/index.php?op...ews&Itemid=167
Fans of Hammer Films’ 1970s outings will rejoice that DVD outfit Synapse Films has acquired the rights to four titles from the library of the classic British horror studio. Among them are three features that have never previously been available on optical disc in the U.S.
Synapse’s Don May Jr. gave us the scoop that they’ve picked up Robert Young’s VAMPIRE CIRCUS, John Hough’s TWINS OF EVIL and Peter Sasdy’s HANDS OF THE RIPPER, along with the classic 13-episode TV series HAMMER HOUSE OF HORROR. “We have new high-definition transfers of all three features,” May tells Fango. “Supplement producer Daniel Griffith is working with us on extras, including—so far—interviews with filmmaker and Hammer fan Joe Dante and FLESH AND BLOOD: THE HAMMER HERITAGE OF HORROR writer/director Ted Newsom. Other possible interviews and extras are in the works, including theatrical trailers and TV spots. It’s very possible we will be putting out the three features on Blu-ray as well. If we do, we’ll announce both the DVD and Blu-ray releases at the same time. All 13 episodes of HAMMER HOUSE OF HORROR will be released in a DVD boxed set. The plan is to have these available in third quarter 2010.” Keep your eyes here for details as they become available.

Awesome awesome awesome.....and possibly blu rays too? Too weird....the Hammers unavailable for the longest may be the first to make it to blu.
I'm in for Vampire Circus and Twins of Evil...probably get Hands of the Ripper just to throw them some more support.

I am a fan of Hammer films, and I will rejoice! When I have them in my grimy little hands. I've been waiting forever for these. I hope when the release dates are announced they will be posted here. And if I hear when they'll be released I will post the dates also.

I was hoping Synapse would dig out something fantastic for their first Blu-ray release, but the quality of their transfers is so great that I'll prob bite on anything they put out.

I am really glad to hear good things about the company itself, though I admit this would be a sight-unseen first-day buy for me regardless. Hope they decide to do the blus. Vampire Circus in particular has all that cool imagery and flames, etc, would look really neat.
I'll keep on hoping someone reissues Scars and Lust for a Vampire....if this can happen, maybe that will too!

Next to Shout Factory, I'd have to say Synapse is one of the best and professional DVD distribution companies out there. I currently own Black Roses and several of the 42nd Street Forever releases and the quality on those are superb. I'm glad that the Hammer House Of Horror series will be reissued since I missed out the first time around and the original is out-of-print. Yeah, I believe Synapse will do a decent job on this and the others.

Great news! I'm in for all 3 features, especially if they get Blu releases!
Will there be any reason to get the rerelease of Hammer House of Horror if I already own the OOP set? That set had PAL-NTSC conversion issues. Hopefully this will be fixed in the re-issue. Do NTSC 24 fps prints of these HOH episodes exist? I assume the episodes were originally shot on 16mm film? Or is that not the case, they possibly being shot on PAL 1" BETASP master tapes?

I was getting a little antsy myself, I notced the prez of Synapse is over at avmaniacs and I did ask him the same thing basically, when and what (BR/DVD)?
"The titles are never officially announced with dates, only that we acquired them. Right now, we're shooting for December for VAMPIRE CIRCUS, with the others to follow in early 2011.
TWINS will follow CIRCUS, with HANDS and the HAMMER HOUSE OF HORRORS coming last.
And, yeah, we are thinking of Blu-ray, but no definite decision has been made. We're currently thinking of our Blu-ray strategy for new and old titles, so if we do Blu, it'll be announced when VAMPIRE CIRCUS goes official."

Man I hope they do the blus.

I'm really close to switching to Bluray ( although i'm not planning on dumping the standard DVD's that i already have ) i'm figuring anytime from September to January so if they announce blu rays for these titles they could possibly be the first ones I get which would be great.

Yeah I purchased Dorm and will probably get the Coffin Joe flick (their other BRs) but have really been waiting on the other Hammers.
Twins in particular. Had to break down and watch it on Netflix just to put the jones off a while!

Does anyone know what involvement Don May Jr had with the Captain America film? I heard he is in the credits.
The way he runs a company and treats his supporters needs to be practiced, I quit buying Code Red releases for a while because the owner is so freaking bi polar, he seems to hate everything and everyone.
