Re: Avatar --> April 22!
I liked the movie and what not but the shine wore off for me months ago, just kind of indifferent now, I will buy the barebones blu ray when it goes on sale for 12.99 at some point down the road

Re: Avatar --> April 22!
The info regarding the aspect ratio of this release is intriguing ...
So this "bare bones" release will be 1.78:1. (The "Imax" version ... but in 2D.)
Does this mean that the November SE release will be 2.35:1??
Irregardless, I'm probably going to purchase every edition that Fox releases. I *loved* the movie; I thought the CGI work -- in 2D *or* 3D -- was the best I have ever experienced; and I'm a big Cameron fan to boot! So I'm at Fox's mercy here!!

Re: Avatar --> April 22!
And in order to view the 3D version you will need:
* A 3D compatible Blu-ray player. (One that conforms to the new Blu-ray 3D requirements.)
* A 3D capable display. It will need to be able to accept a 120hz signal via a HDMI 1.4 compatible cable.
* If you use an A/V Receiver to feed HDMI to your display, you'll also need a new "3D-compatible" A/V receiver which can accommodate HDM1 1.4.
* 3D glasses. These glasses are the "LCD shutter" type which currently cost over a hundred dollars apiece (although this price is expected to go down).

Re: Avatar --> April 22!
Avatar will likely be out in 3-D sooner than that; Fox is just waiting for a re-issue later this year to make another couple of hundred million.
Since the eventual 3-D blu version will be watchable in flat form for those who don't have the equipment, those who care about seeing the movie in the intended form could buy it and be ready for later...

Re: Avatar --> April 22!
A friend picked up a screening copy on the corner, I was not impressed with the story or special effects. Call me crazy, but I though King Kong from 2005 had much better special effects.

well, as you said, it was a shitty screening bootleg, and god knows what kind of TV you watched it on. I'd say your judgement is misinformed, Avatar had excellent special effects.

Re: Avatar --> April 22!
The only way I would buy this is if there were an alternate ending where the marines attack the na'vi from orbit followed by a ground assualt on any survivors, then start their mining operations.
For some reason, I don't think that's going to happen.

Re: Avatar --> April 22!
why would they include "avatar 2" on the avatar 1 release?
