Re: The Lovely Bones (4/20/2010)
I want to see this just because it was shot in my home town and surrounding areas. I stood around the outskirts of the set and got to watch car chases, and drove through 3 different production setups on the way to work. Sadly I never once saw anyone famous. Ohh well. One of my friends/ex-girlfriend is in the film too for a little (she is a local actor). I have a feeling I wont like the movie but since my town is in it I'll give it a rent.

The mall they used in the film is located five minutes from where i live so that was the main reason why i went to see the movie. The mall is now closed but before the movie opened it had only one remaining store open and some of the props were still there. I thought it was a good movie though.

I've heard a LOT of iffy things about this film, which disappointed me, since I was particularly looking forward to it (I never had the chance to actually watch it). I'll probably rent it, to see what I think.

I'm either waiting for a DVD with something other than just the film, or for the current release to go down to $5.. whichever comes first is what I'll get.

The documentary on the BD covers the 15 weeks of Production, very well done stuff (and much better than the movie itself, sorry to say....). They don't cover the pre-production, the CGI effects and visual effects done, to which he says "That might be for another DVD...."
He also introduces the Production Diaries documentary as "for the DVD", which ironically is not on the DVD....

Other then the colors it wasn't much different then in the movie.

I can't understand how someone finds this movie bland. It had drama, heartbreak, suspense, otherworldly awesome visuals. I don't understand all the hate for this movie.

Amazing, touching book. POS movie.
I'm so disappointed Lynne Ramsay didn't follow through on directing this. It would have give it a solid footing in the very real world as opposed to the horribly saccharine, ham-handed attempt at mainstream that this movie became. I take nothing away from the performances of Stanley Tucci and Saoirse Ronan. They were very good, despite the fact that Tucci still felt a bit miscast. All the other actors were either underused, misused or miscast.

For the most part, the acting was fine (Wahlberg was my main exception, and I don't fault him so much since he was brought on at the last minute to replace Ryan Gosling), and the film looked fine. It just felt emotionally hollow for me. It's a shame, since I would have thought Jackson to have been an excellent choice, just based on Heavenly Creatures alone. He ended up being completely miscast as director.

I'm not a huge fan of Jackson, but that's the sole reason that people gave him the benefit of the doubt on this film. The Jackson of Heavenly Creatures is not the Jackson of today. I don't think he can tell that intimate of a story anymore. It was a miracle that he ever could. The bombast has always been a big part of his filmmaking.
