Peanuts 1970's Collection Volume 2 (06/01/2010).
Peanuts 1970's Collection Volume 2 is on its way (06/01/2010). The specials will be...
-Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown
-You're A Good Sport, Charlie Brown
-It's Arbor Day, Charlie Brown
-What a Nightmare, Charlie Brown
-It's Your First Kiss, Charlie Brown
-You're the Greatest, Charlie Brown
The order above is the order according to DVD Active, but that would mean that "What a Nightmare, Charlie Brown" (February 23, 1978) and "It's Your First Kiss, Charlie Brown" (October 24, 1977) are out of order. So either DVD Active has it wrong or the WB screwed up. Also I'm really upset that they left out the the specials "Happy Anniversary, Charlie Brown" (January 9, 1976) and "Happy Birthday, Charlie Brown" (January 5, 1979). Those two specials have never been released on any format and would have been great to finally see a release. But that would have meant that the WB would have had to gone out of their way to make the fans truly happy and why would they want to do something silly like that? I guess we could just cross our fingers and hope they release all those "milestone" specials in a box set after all the regular specials have been released. Not a bad way to milk a little extra cash out of the die hard fans. But I doubt we'll see that.
Anywho, here is the DVD Active news...

Really? The first two have the most rewatch value with all the "classic holiday" specials being on them. I will at least watch them every holiday season. But I've already watched the first set at least twice. Peanuts are great! I grew up watching them and still continue to enjoy them. This third set will be in my collection on June 1st.

I loved the Charlie Brown cartoons when I was a kid but I've found I don't like them as much anymore now that I'm an adult. I have the 3 major holiday ones (Great Pumpkin, Christmas and Thanksgiving) and You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown because I loved that one!

I'd be more interested in the movies - you can get A Boy Named Charlie Brown, and Snoopy Come Home, but no DVD love for Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown and Race For Your Life, Charlie Brown. Good grief.

I REALLY wish they'd include the commercials from the original airings on these!

So, "What A Nightmare" is the only new one on this set? Weak.
I just got the R4 Australian sets of The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show. The second set includes 4 specials, 3 not released here(AFAIK):
A Charlie Brown Celebration
It's an Adventure Charlie Brown
You're a Good Man Charlie Brown
Snoopy the Musical
Who knows when they'll release the show here, I'd say it's worth picking up if you have the means to play them.

I was hoping some of the documentaries would have been included on this release...oh well...
At this point, while I really want is Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (And Don't Come Back!!!) and Race For Your Life, Charlie Brown. Why Paramount hasn't released these on DVD yet baffles me.
Michael Corvin, where did you pick up the Charlie Brown & Snoopy Show? I have been wanting to get it but was not sure where to get it from.

I'm buying these but I really hate that they can't be bothered to include the documentaries on these discs. I'm not going to fill my shelves with keepcase after keepcase of individual "deluxe" versions just for an extra 20 minute documentary per disc. Their absence is a totally classless move.

I will pick this up, and this is where I will probably stop with Peanuts collecting. The first 60s-70s volumes are where my favorite cartoons are found. Once the 80s rolled around, the shows started seeming less interesting and the selection of subjects more forced. If they decide to cough up the other two movies, however, I may get them. (I saw all the movies theatrically and am likewise somewhat mystified that Race and Bon Voyage didn't get released somewhere along the line).

Bon Voyage Charlie Brown has been near or at the top of my most wanted titles not on DVD forever now.
I understand they are trying to get every dollar out of the consumer, but even in that spirit, it would be great if they offered one giant comprehensive set of all of the episodes and special features at a high price. I'd be willing to shell out just to have them all in one collection and not have to hunt and wait for new releases and smaller compilations.

Who has the rights to Bon Voyage and Race for Your Life? Paramount released Boy Named and Snoopy Come Home but don't seem to have released anything since Warner took over the franchise. But Warner has only done specials so far.

I know what you mean. I love the Peanuts specials, but those two movies are classics; if I had to, I'd get them over the specials.

i was actually wondering if paramount still owns the rights to Race for Your Life and Bon Voyage. I'd love to see true ananmorphic widescreen versions of both
