So I'm closing in on 1000 DVDs!
I'm currently sitting at 985 including some DVDs that I have on order through Amazon. It's been a long journey to this point. My cousin had joined the army and was stationed over in Italy. For entertainment he was constantly buying DVDs and having them shipped over to him and he eventually got so many that he started his own rental business. One year when he was home for Christmas I remember he brought 3 or 4 huge binders with 100 or so DVDs in each of them and I was just in aww.
From that moment on I decided that I too wanted to collect DVDs. I remember when I first started collecting back in 2001. I would always spend my allowance on new releases at Wal-Mart or pick over the racks with the cheaper ones and walk away with a stack of 15 or so and a huge smile on my face.
Then I discovered Amazon
. I never would have imagined that I would get to 1000, but I'm nearly there and pretty excited. I know a lot of you on here have double that or triple but hey, I'm working on it.
So my question to you guys is...Did you try to make any DVD/Blu-Ray in particular your milestone purchase?
Any thoughts on what mine should be?

Honestly, I have never watched that before. lol (way before my time) But good thinking! It does need to be something on a grander scale. However, I'm sure that the 75th Anniversary Collector's Edition of the Lone Ranger would make a great 1000th in any collection!

Not really sure what my #1000 was. It wasn't a huge milestone and in the end it's just a number that will be passed over soon.

I see you do not yet own my all time favorite movie... "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels". So just throwing that out there for a suggestion. And congrats on hitting 1000. I started back in 2001 as well. Just buying some of my favorite titles. Who knew that 9 years later I would be coming up on 4000 titles. LeeVing quoted it best above "the things you own end up owning you".

Well, if anyone has every DVD they own listed in a spreadsheet or some software, just look what # 1000 says.
My number 1000 DVD: Subway Stories

That's just #1000 on the list, not necessarily, and probably not, the 1000th they purchased. I used to track every 50th DVD and then every 100th DVD as the collection grew. However when I started pruning the collection and giving DVDs away it started to make less sense. I mean was #1000 the first one I bought or the second one when I dropped below 1000 again?

Personally, after a couple of hundreds DVDs bought I lost completely track in which order they were bought.
I found no need to actually make a big party and invite everyone over for a 1000 DVD anniversary. Today, I´m struggling to find room for my 3000+ collection. Help, I need a bigger house!!!!!

I'm sure I have more than 1000. I've lost count. With this snow storm, I've been able to catch up a little with unwatched dvds. However, still have a lot more to watch.

I have been buying blu-rays for the past two years now. However, I still buy DVDs if they are really cheap and a film that I don't think will matter if the picture is 'spectacular'. I still buy all of my tv shows on dvd.

craaaazy - i'm at the 965 mark in my collecting (the 10 or so blu-rays i own included), and i was pondering about making my 1000th be something i've always wanted.
i'm thinking about getting a long-sought OOP title or something.

I remember a few months back I passed the mark. I don't exactly know what my 1,000th DVD purchased was, but the 1000th one I cataloged randomly happened to be the complete series of "Six Feet Under" which I felt was more than appropriate for the occasion.
