I was looking through DVDAF for some titles I am missing. I came across a list of David Lean films that were to be part of the "David Lean Collection". The release date says MGM canceled the release of them. Just wondering if anyone knew why or where to get some of the films. Plus the design of the cases looked appealing as well. I wish the studios wouldn't cancel stuff like this.

Brief Encounter, Oliver Twist and Great Expectations are all available as Criterions, so those are easy.

If I remember correctly, MGM canceled this and a Hitchcock collection due to rights issues with some of the films.

I remember that inexpensive Brief Encounter and Great Expectations discs for the US were announced by MGM but never released (at least I don't think they were released). MGM site still has most of the cover art on their site... except for Oliver Twist. Hmm, I wonder if that's the title that was the snafu.

There's also a region-free Blu-ray of Great Expectations available.

I just can't do the PAL speed-up thing...just knowing it's just a bit off is enough for me to not get anything. Hopefully they will release a few of the missing ones here.
