Who here has never double dipped?

We've seen the threads on what people have double dipped on.

We've seen the Blu-Ray and HD-DVD threads where people say they won't switch because DVD is fine and they don't want to double dip. That never made much sense to me since the upgraded player still plays the old stuff just fine and you never have to double dip.

Those people got me to thinking, is there anyone here, including those people, that have never double dipped in one way or another?

This thread isn't about listing what you've double dipped on, lord knows we've seen enough of those threads. It's not for those people that sold a movie and then later on decided they'd buy it again. I'm talking about the people that have a version and bought a second copy or maybe they sold their old copy because they were planning on grabbing a new version, maybe because it was on a new format or just a plain old upgrade to the format they had, that was coming out soon.

As for me, I've dipped my hot dog in the batter more times than I can count. I've dipped it at least 5 times on certain movies that I just can't escape from.

Is this some kind of sexual innuendo?

Re: Who here has never double dipped?

I have never bought a second copy of any dvd that I can remember. Seems like a waste of money to me.

I have sold a few and bought them again though.

Re: Who here has never double dipped?

I have only double dipped twice.. I never really owned any VHS movies.. so i'm not going to count those.

Actually come to think about it all the vhs movies I owned I think the Rock is the only one I ever bought on DVD.

Dvd's

American pie and then I bought the "unrated" american pie. I think it was the first "unrated" dvd.. so i pulled the trigger and was totally let down.

The other was Evil Dead. Bought the Lunchbox Edition and then the book of the dead.

Never double-dipped. I buy a DVD once and just end it.

I don't think thats what the OP is talking about here.

I used to do the deal where I'd sell stuff, movies, music, and games, and then go back and buy the stuff again. That was a real waste of money, so now I keep everything unless double dip.

I've only gotten rid of 2 things recently that I didn't have replacements for. One was a trade and one was the Guinea Pig box set that's selling for a good price on Amazon. Other than those 2, it's been well over 10 years since I've done anything like that and I can't remember what it would have been.

It's also been why I have so many damn movies. I've been trying to catch up on entering stuff into my collection and I'm 71 movies away from 9,500. I figure it'll be another couple months before I hit 10,000 and unless I come up with a better title, I think I'll have to time it so 10,000 B.C. is that title.

Yeah and for the people that have never double dipped there's nothing to discuss after you simply say "I haven't." You can't really discuss what movies you've never double dipped on.

Re: Who here has never double dipped?

There are people out there who don't believe in double-dipping. They're called "wives." I doubt this demographic is well represented on this forum, except vicariously through those of us who are their husbands and are used to trying to justify why we need a newer release of a movie we already own and haven't watched in over a year.

Re: Who here has never double dipped?

I only do when a certain movie I really like gets re-released with a special edition (only with deleted scenes), or if I have a full-frame of one and find a cheaper widescreen. I sell the other copies.

The first DVD I ever double-dipped was BATTLE ROYALE (HK NTSC Region 3 letterboxed version, then the UK NTSC anamorphic version).

Thats not what the OP is talking about. The OP is talking about buying the same version of a movie cause you sold the one you had, and later on down the road decided you actually want it after all. Or maybe its been remastered or touched up (though, those usually include extras - unless is a digibit edition)

Re: Who here has never double dipped?

As far as I can recall, I've never double dipped on DVDs. I've been known around Christmas / birthdays to ask for a better version than what I already have, but I've never spent my own money to do so.

As for VHS / DVD / HD DVD / Blu-ray, I never really collected VHS, but of the few I did have, a couple eventually got upgraded to DVD. With HD DVD / Blu-ray, I've upgraded a few. Probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 or so. But I probably have over 1000 movies, so that's about 1%. There's a couple more I would upgrade for sure, but that's about it.

I prefer to buy things I don't already own.

Re: Who here has never double dipped?

I've only triple dipped with The Prisoner--the A&E MegaSet, the Network 40th Anniversary MegaSet, then the Complete Series Blu ray.

I wouldn't sell any of them because each has something unique that I want to keep.

Other than that, never double dipped, and don't intend to. My Oppo is good enough for me.

No, he made it quite clear in the first post: "It's not for those people that sold a movie and then later on decided they'd buy it again."

My bad, I missed that one. You are correct.

Though personally, I don't see why that wouldn't count. Maybe thats why I missed it, lol.

It's okay, I can see how you would make that mistake (it sounds like I'm being sarcastic but I'm not :P)

Like I said, I haven't double dipped because I started collecting fairly recently (within the past 5 years) so all of the big titles I'm interested in had already been released a few times.

Re: Who here has never double dipped?

I've only double dipped to upgrade from VHS. Even then, I try not to rebuy movies again. I can't figure out what I hate more, a little tracking (VHS) vs. freezing/skipping frames (DVD). At least with tracking on an old VHS tape, it can still be watched (w/tracking control).. if only they weren't so bulky in size.

If I sold it, it was because A) I disliked it or B) it went OOP and I needed the money. In either case I'd still never purchase it again.
