I bought a copy of this last year at the Flashback Weekend convention in Chicago. It was a pretty crappy bootleg. Didn't even know there was a different cut. I'm interested in seeing this.

I think he has been preparing two new films over the past year Fangland (Which looks to be dead) and The Ward. Heard somewhere awhile back that Debra Hill's death bothered him pretty bad as well.

Its because everyone wants a Russell/Carpenter commentary, right? Besides that, some pretty interesting stuff on there.

No, I couldn't care less if there was a Russell/Carpenter commentary. The reviewer just doesn't make the features sound appealing. Though I would like to point out that the reviewer makes the commentary sound awful because its about the making of the movie and not about Elvis. I think that's stupid! Why would you want a commentary that is solely about Elvis? The commentary SHOULD be about the making of the film. I know a ton about Elvis, I don't need a commentary retelling me everything I already know. So I think the commentary might actually be good.

Rounding out the bonus features is a commentary featuring Ronnie McDowell, the man who sang the Elvis songs for this film, and author Edie Hand. It's an average track that tells more about the film experience than Elvis.

I'm curious as to why this is 16:9. Hopefully it was shot to be safe for both widescreen and the 4:3 television broadcast.

Either that or Carpenter framed for 1.85:1 and the tv version was open matte.

LOL Ronnie and Roddy are two very different people ;o)

I just worry that its going to become the norm to start cropping films to 1.78:1 so people don't have black bars on HDTV's. You guys are likely right that it was shot intended for widescreen but kept it safe for the open-matte TV viewing. I have Carpenters others TV movie "Somebody's Watching Me" which is presented in widescreen and it doesn't feel over cropped. I've never seen this movie so I am really looking forward to it. The Carpenter collection will finally be complete.

I have no idea about ELVIS and what Carpenter's truly intended AR was.
