Blu-Ray/DVD Combo Releases - How many are out there?

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince has a combo release of Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital copy. BB had it for $17.99 and it looks to contain all of the extras that are on the 2-disc Special Edition DVD release for $22.99.

I don't have a Blu-Ray player (yet), but since this also came with the DVD, it was a better deal, so I picked it up (Xmas gift for my daughter.) I figure I'll get a Blu-Ray player sometime in the next year (Black Friday 2010 will probably have them for $50 or less since they had ones for $79 this year), and we can watch the DVD version now too.

My question is, how many Blu-Rays have been released as a combo release like this one? The guy at BB said he read that most studios are going to be doing this to get people to start switching over to Blu-Ray (but he could be talking out of his a$$.) IF this is going to be the case, my future purchases may well be the Blu-Ray Combos especially since the price is right (at least on this one it was.)

Harry Potter Blu-Ray was $15 at WalMart but I'd already bought the DVD 2 disc of it & Peanuts 1960's for $14.97 total from Columbia House.
Anyway, I started doing this also even though I don't have a Blu-ray player either, (dummy me didn't do this with Hannah Montana or Bolt). I first did it with Snow White, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs & Up plus upgraded and got Cars and Monsters Inc. I've paid less $43 for 5 Blu-Rays with all the discounts in the last month. Also will be buying G-Force next week for around $11. I got Smallville S6 Blu-Ray from Big Lots for $6. As long as I can get them this cheap, I will continue doing it.

Thanks for the list of BD/DVD Combo Packs. Now that Warner Brothers just announced that they're starting their new theatrical DVD releases as Combo packs starting in Q1 2010, I expect that list to grow quite a bit.

Thanks for the info! Here's more details:
Warner to release all their new theatrical DVD releases as Combo BD/DVD packs starting in Q1 2010
Burbank, Calif. December 16, 2009 - Warner Bros. Home Entertainment today announced two Blu-ray(TM) packaging initiatives that will give consumers greater value and portability when shopping for the best possible way to watch movies at home. Beginning in the first quarter of 2010, Warner Home Video will be releasing its entire Theatrical New Release slate as Blu-ray combo packs, containing a Blu-ray Disc of the film with exclusive special features and exciting BD-Live interactivity, a standard-definition DVD and a Digital Copy of the film. For no additional cost, Blu-ray combo packs offer consumers significantly more value by merging the unsurpassed quality of Blu-ray with the convenience of being able to watch the film in any format, on just about every playback device.

Warner Home Video is also launching the industry's first line of Blu-ray Double Features, priced at $24.98 (SRP). Beginning February 23, the attractively packaged and entry-level priced Blu-ray Double Features pack will include a pair of well-matched catalog hits spanning multiple genres - comedy, action, drama/thriller and horror. The first wave will include "Dirty Harry" and "Magnum Force" starring Clint Eastwood; "Analyze This" and "Analyze That" starring Billy Crystal and Robert De Niro; "Presumed Innocent" and "Frantic" starring Harrison Ford; "Miss Congeniality" and "Miss Congeniality 2" starring Sandra Bullock; and Grumpy Old Men and Grumpier Old Men starring Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon.
I figure Grumpy Old Men and Grumpier Old Men will sell a shitload.

Re: Blu-Ray/DVD Combo Releases - How many are out there?

That's interesting- if they're going to include the regular DVDs at NO ADDITIONAL COST then I guess that's OK, though since I'm obsessive that means I will have to watch both discs. (The flipper discs are a better idea, IF they work.)

Never seen a Blu-Ray with 2 movies on it- is that doable without overcompression?

Re: Blu-Ray/DVD Combo Releases - How many are out there?

Guess, the reason for making a Blu-ray/DVD Combo must be that Blu-ray aren´t penetrating as fast as expected or Studios want. Or that it´s tough to get the regular DVD owners to switch to Blu-ray.

If I own a DVD player I want my DVD seperate. Same case goes for Blu-ray. Why would anyone want both on the same disc?

What do you guys think of this IMHO stupid initiative?

I think Blu-ray/DVD flipper discs are a very bad idea. Thats just asking for scratches on the disc weather you want them or not. And not only that, flipper discs are just bad altogether, its bad enough having that on discs for widescreen/standard. But at least with that, its still a DVD no matter what way you flip it.

I don't think Blu-ray/DVD flippers will be a big, seller if at all. It is a good idea in itself as an idea, but I don't think sticking 2 different types of media discs into one will do good physically. I wonder what their reliability will be like.

Why not? There are lots of titles that were only released on BD-25 (single layer) discs....If you put two of those on one BD-50 (double layer) disc, you'd be good to go, and nothing would look different.....
OR, think of it this way....they fit five 45+ minute episodes of Lost on one Blu-ray Disc....that's over 225 minutes of video, with fully uncompressed PCM audio tracks for each as well, and those discs look outstanding....you could fit two movies that are two hours or less each along with losslessly compressed TrueHD or DTS-HD MA soundtracks in the same space with no problems whatsoever....
