Wow, DuckTales going back into the vault, I guess a main store run like some of the other exclusives is gone now. Glad I got mine a year or two ago!

1) My list came directly from Disney, so yes, I'm sure of it.

2) 101 Dalmatians (animated) and Jungle Book are not on the list I have provided.

Does this mean the Blu-ray releases are going to be pulled from the market as well? This is ridiculous.

Just looking at your signature, you're not really the kind of guy that rushes to stay on top of things, are ya?

The newsletter I received didn't say anything about being format-specific, so I would assume that, yes, the Blu-ray Discs are also going back into the vault. Back in the day when VHS and DVD co-existed, they both went into the vault together so I see no reason that the BD wouldn't. The only odd thing about this is that they just rolled out the Cars gift pack. I didn't expect that version to be on the shelves for long, but I am surprised that they won't simply replenish it with the BD by itself. I suspect the Pixar titles will be in our library before the end of January.

Re: Back to the Disney Vault: 30 January 2010

that would be ridiculous to pull one of the three pirates movies.. I still haven't bought any of them. Was waiting for a cool box with all 3 movies together, but it seems that's not going to happen anytime soon.

I believe there was a box of all three scheduled for release a month or two back, but I don't recall hearing that it ever came out. (This was supposed to be a DVD release; I think you can buy all three together on BD in a box already).

Pulling the third one out of print (if it's true that it's just the third one) may be a pretty smart business decision on Disney's part. There are probably others like me, who only own the first one, who will now have to think about finally snagging both parts two and three. (The second one is pretty useless without the third, because part two ends with a cliffhanger. This is probably the type of sales they're trying to generate).

Complicating all this (for me anyway) is that I do not think that the third one is a very good movie at all. So I basically have to decide to sit tight with just the first movie (which stands alone pretty well) or buy (the decent) part two along with (the lousy, to me anyway) part three.

Re: Back to the Disney Vault: 30 January 2010

I'd been putting it off since it's release, but I went ahead and picked up the 101 Dalmatians Platinum Edition last night after seeing this.

It was the first movie I'd ever watched in a theater, so it's been on my radar for some time, but this announcement was enough to get me to take the plunge.

Re: Back to the Disney Vault: 30 January 2010

I think the original poster misread the email, as I got the same email from the Disney Movie Club, and only the first four titles are the ones that they mean are being retired to the vault, under the "Disappearing Classics" banner:

101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure Special Edition
102 Dalmatians (Live Action)
101 Dalmatians (Live Action)
Jungle Book 2 Special Edition

And ironically none of them are classic. Lock 'em up for a century for all I care.

Also DuckTales is available through the Disney Movie Reward site, not just the Disney Movie Club.

Several? I only see Sleeping Beauty that has gotten a "recent" Blu-Ray release and that was like last fall or something. Cars has been on BD for a while now.

Was referring to the titles that were included in the 12 weeks of disney steelbooks that Futureshop and later Best Buy recently had.

Re: Back to the Disney Vault: 30 January 2010

Update - As WMAangel surmised, I did misunderstand the e-mail Disney sent me. Today brought a different e-mail that only lists seven titles: Sleeping Beauty, both Jungle Books and all four 101 Dalmatians (animated and live action) features. I really do wish I'd kept the original e-mail, though, because all the titles I originally (errantly) reported were listed in a singular banner whose masthead read something to the effect of "Back into the Vault Soon" or whatever it said. I promise, I generally don't misunderstand basic e-mails!
