Re: Criterion Newsletter - November 2009

I would be so happy if Dogville became a Criterion DVD. The original Lionsgate DVD is atrocious.

I'd actually be really happy if Criterion bought the rights to all of Lars von Trier's films. A Criterion for Antichrist would be, for a lack of better words, the bee's knees.

Dog Star Man is already on "By Brakhage"

Also, it is interesting that Sonic Youth are the featured celebrities this month, considering their film 1991: The Year Punk Broke has been a long rumored Criterion release. I'm actually friends with Thurston and Kim's daughter, I could ask about this.

Has there really been talk of 1991: TYPB via Criterion? If you can, do ask about this. I know that Markey put up some extra footage (in B&W) on youtube, I believe. Many people have been patiently waiting for this on DVD and the Criterion treatment would be top notch, given all the footage that was shot. I imagine the music clearances would be quite the hurdle.

They include the standard booklets, but not the 'big extras', like the novelization in The Third Man. I'm pretty sure a few other Criterion blu-rays are missing things as well.
