So then viewers can "catch up" with the last years season before the new one started. Thats pretty much how all shows are released

I will probably get it but I can't decide if I like this or not... I would just prefer them just release them in order. Besides what is season 20 going to look like next to season 19 in 2016. I wonder if I would even still be interested in The Simpsons by then, I think they should hurry up and get the older ones released.

So far I have only purchased the first 4 seasons. Out of those 4 I hate to say it, but 2 of them contained defective discs and I had to exchange them - that's a 50% rate of defects. I would like to know if anybody else has had any similar problems with defective sets. The problem was one of skipping - the disc would freeze for 5 - 10 seconds and then jump ahead that 5 - 10 seconds. I have all of these sets on my Amazon.com wish list, but if this defective problem is as widespread as the experience I have already had then I don't want to purchase any more of them.

I do remember with season 3 taking it back to target 2 times to get a replacement because it would freeze and skip but I eventually found out it was not the discs but my PS2. I guess it just decided it didn't like dvds anymore, I didnt think it was the problem back then because up untill just recently it has played all PS2 games just fine.

I have the first 12 seasons, most release day purchases. No defects whatsoever. In fact, I have two copies of seasons 6-11 and have watched all of them with no problems. That being said, the ones that are the accordion packaging I put in paper sleeves after watching them. Taking them in and out of the cardboard sleeves would inevitably damage the discs. Aside from that though, no problems whatsoever.

Thanks very much for your input everybody. I am glad to hear that I am an isolated case who happened to end up with 2 out of 4 sets which were defective!

Re: The Simpsons - The Complete 20th Season
looks like the case may be pretty cool.
why are they releasing this now though? i mean, is there something special about the 20th season that warrants it being released right now? having not watched the show in a while, did they do a lot in the 20th season to "celebrate" the milestone?

Since the show is still running, it would be a smart move to release season sets on the same schedule as other current shows, all while releasing the back catalog.

Will they continue with commentaries on every episode? They have done that for every season set so far.

Actually it's just a preview of the documentary thats on the DVD(which is airing 2 days after the release date).

This seems like a rushed release to capitalize on how the show is HD now. I just think it's hilarious that Fox is charging the same amount for a set that's totally devoid of extras.
I'm on the fence about buying this now.

Re: The Simpsons - The Complete 20th Season
I was totally all in for a blu-ray purchase (even considering the $60 MSRP for 2 discs), but there's no way I'm going to purchase it if they drop the previous set precedent with special features. That's half the fun of 'The Simpsons' DVDs is knowing you get to watch the whole thing twice with Commentary.

Re: The Simpsons - The Complete 20th Season
They're pulling a Law & Order I see. Releasing the series chronologically, then stopping and releasing the most current season.
I'm not too worried about 13-19 being released. I've heard season 20 was good, but for my money the Simpsons had about 5 or 6 seasons that were completly UNWATCHABLE. 14-19 were garbage.

Re: The Simpsons - The Complete 20th Season
The writers from last season are still writing for this season and next, so I would assume they're too busy to do commentaries.
