I can't quite remember as my first dvd player was a bday gift from my then girlfriend (now wife) in nov of 1999. Im thinking it was Reservoir Dogs and some Disney movies (which I still have) but not sure which ones.

Don't remember the exact first DVD, but the first few I bought were:

I'm pretty sure it was The Simpsons: The Complete First Season. If not that maybe Star Trek: The Motion Picture Director's Cut.

ZU WARRIORS OF THE MAGIC MOUNTAIN (1983), directed by Tsui Hark and starring Brigitte Lin, Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao. Bought in January 2001 before I bought my first DVD player. Just so I'd have something to play on it as soon as I got one, which was a week or so later.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. I bought it at Blockbuster in 2001 for $8. In 2001 $8 was an amazing price and I couldn't pass it up even though I only owned VHS at the time.

That's what I did too! I bought the DVD and then I got a laptop w/dvd player a week or so later...I can imagine the excitement of that film on dvd. I watched that over and over when it came out on HK dvd.

Heat. Bought it with the player. Don't remember when, 1999?

My main motivation for buying the player however was Fight Club, which I loved. I remember the VHS came out on April 21st, and the DVD didn't come out until June 6th, or something the next year. The nine month wait was hell, it was my favorite film at the time.

I didnt buy one.. i won a copy of Jaws collector's edition at a screening of Friday the 13th 3 in 3D at one of the indy theaters in my area back in october of 2002. Didnt buy a second one until christmas of that year and got the Back to the future trilogy.

The Polygram release of The Usual Suspects sometime around July or August 1998. I bought a few HD DVDs at once, but I know Jarhead was among them. And The Lives of Others was my first BD.

I think Bottle Rocket was the first VHS I bought.

i think it was the matrix.

There's Something About Mary in August of 1999.
