Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut - 11/3/09
DVD Active has the details on it. It will be a five-disc DVD and four-disc Blu-ray. It includes 'The Ultimate Cut' of the movie, which is basically the Director's Cut with the Black Freighter animation woven in. It also includes the Motion Comics and all of the relevant special features from the Director's Cut and Black Freighter releases. The only completely new stuff are the two audio commentaries, although the featurettes "Real Super Heroes, Real Vigilantes", "Mechanics: Technologies of a Fantastic World" will be new to DVD.

So by the looks of it, it doesn't include the theatrical release on DVD then? (I see the digital, but I really never cared for that as a "feature")

Looks like the inclusion of the Motion Comic will be the already released version tossed into the box rather than a new disc in the set. The trade ad shows the Motion Comic in it's own BluRay case with the artwork from it's stand-alone release.
I'll be picking this up. I already have the BD for the director's cut, but I'm a big fan of the movie and the comic, so I'll be adding the ultimate set to my collection.

I think I'll be sticking with the DC I already own. When reading the book I didn't much care for the Black Freighter component and I can live without the commentaries and digital copy. For some reason the copy I bought of the DC didn't even include the digital copy.

Anyone else find it funny, in a cringe-inducing way, to read about new "cuts" for a movie most famous for a giant blue dong? It gets worse if this version is extended or enhanced in any way.

I'm still on the fence for this one. I watched the director's cut recently and felt that it was dragging at spots. I am a sucker for fancy packaging and I am interested to see how they transition to the black freighter scenes.

I thought I read somewhere that the yellow smiley face was somehow trademarked and it wasn't allowed to be used in certain instances. Can't remember where I heard that though so it may be total B.S.

The smiley face is trademarked, but I'm too lazy to see by who. DC had to work out a deal with the owner for use.

It's trademarked by Smiley World Ltd. That does not, however, mean they couldn't have used the yellow clock or done like the Trade Paperback cover (all yellow with a black eye and the red blood)

I ended up getting the DC on Blu, but I enjoyed the movie enough that I'll probably pick this up as well...

I haven't seen this film since it was in theaters, can anyone tell me if that pirate symbol is at all relevant to the movie in any way shape or form?
