can handle everything. i have seen some models on the internet that they have upgraded, when i find one i might start with a few titles. |

The only part of your post I would dispute is this: which seems like an arbitrary number, and when you add in the second half of the sentence, unprovable.

I was fully prepared to buy Salvation on DVD, but giving the SD a 1-disc, and the blu-ray a 3-disc is just a disgrace. Unless someone gets a steelbook of this movie, it ain't happening. |

like dark knight or watchmen something like 30% of initial sales were already bluray if i remember correctly!? this is turning into too much of a format war, which is in my opinion beside the point. it wouldnt have hurt warner to release the dc on single disc, that way the true fans could still purchase the bluray with all the extras, but they wouldn`t piss off their core clientelle, which is still responsible for the major part of the turnover.... |

i mean how many dvd customers actually post on boards to complain. you can bet the actual number of upset people will be much higher! then again you are probably right, the average wallmart customer will never even know there is also a directors cut :) |

Unfortunately -- and I do honestly mean unfortunately -- it works the other way around. Unless you see widespread hatred on the internet in non-niche places (like, say, the front of Yahoo!), you're not going to see even a peep out of the general public. I can't think of how many times there's been things I've wanted to petition against or complain about but the amount of people who actually care outside of forums like these, where we all have the same basic interests, is almost nil. I'm positive the number of people who complain about this will be far lower than the number of people who, say, complained about Let the Right One In having the wrong subtitles on DVD, and even that wasn't good enough to get magnolia to replace the discs or issue a recall, just to trickle out corrected copies. And that was us writing to a small independent that likely only gets between 500 and 1000 emails a day. There's no doubt that Warner Bros. gets a considerably higher number about a vast range of things. It's the same reason Snakes on a Plane failed at the box office -- the rest of the world doesn't have any idea what happens on the internet. It's been stated in this thread pretty clearly that Joe 6-Pack doesn't know or care that there is a DC, even by you, and that's tens of millions of people. If they don't know what they're missing, why would they complain? If it weren't for this website, would you double check the back of the Blu-Ray of every DVD you buy just to see if you're missing features? And would Joe 6-Pack? Unless the uninformed consumer who doesn't frequent sites like this picks them up and compares them, they're never going to be more informed than they are now, and I don't see people doing that.
20,000 signatures, with their arrogance i doubt they would issue a statement with the words "due to client demand he have decided to also release the terminator salvation directors cut on dvd" :) maybe more people will catch on to that stunt once they see there is also a directors cut bluray in the shops, but not on dvd. however, i think even if they received 1000 hatred mails per day, they wouldn`t change their policy. |

i can just picture future warner dvd releases,
the hangover extended cut only on blu, the final destination 3d version only on blu, etc etc :) |

Maybe people who plan on buying this on Blu-ray ONLY post in the Blu-ray thread then!
Isn't that WTF it is for? |
Re: terminator salvation 12/1
Then maybe the DVD owners should stop mentioning Blu-ray every single post? This thread has nothing to do with Terminator the movie - it was created to bitch about Warner's practices.

This site is built around the love for films which was in this case built upon the DVD platform - like it or not. And the continual debate over the obvious advantages that BR has over DVD - even for those with their head stuck in the sand - is beyond ridiculous at this point. We "non-conformists" get it. Really. And apparently we'll be stuck with shitty releases from WB for it. Frankly the only useful thing from this entire five page thread is the following:

I just don't appreciate the rude and potentially offensive comments from either party. But no offense and I dont' want to start a fight, your comment was uncalled for. |
Re: terminator salvation 12/1
Then if that's the case, then the "DVD only" (and there is nothing wrong with that) need to stop being the ones who constantly bring up Blu-Ray. I could really care less is someone buys only DVD or Blu-Ray.
This thread was made to complain about Blu-Ray, then when someone steps in to say *anything* that isn't anti-blu they are pretty much told to screw off. Look I think the DVD only crowd has a reason to be upset. Its not right, but the way you guys are handling it by turning it into an 'us vs them' argument isn't the way to go about it. Here is an idea, make one thread about the complaints about this issue. This exact same thread will appear again when Harry Potter gets announced. That's only fair since you guys are calling for anyone who supports Blu-Ray to be hidden away on another forum. Funny thing is when Universal use to do two disc sets of titles that went out of print and were impossible to find right after release it never became this heated. But now take away extras....look out! Its the same three users that complain about this. While I believe one is a fake poster just trolling, the others refuse to let anyone else have a say in the issue. NO ONE looks down on anyone or thinks they are better than anyone because they have one home video format than the other. Also, yes this site was built on DVDs, so that means only DVD discussion should be allowed? Lets get rid of the TV, Movie, and Video Game sections. Looking at all of these threads as an observer its always the same people who start the argument and they are the ones who are anti-blu. It gets old. |
Re: terminator salvation 12/1
I'm honestly surprised this thread hasn't been closed.

Re: terminator salvation 12/1
I've been observing this train wreck thread and I feel obliged to chime in. Yes, I'm a Blu-ray owner, but I certainly understand the frustration of those of you who aren't and would like the DC of this movie. It really sucks for you (and I honestly don't mean that in a sarcastic way).
But while it sounds nice as one poster said to assume that people will switch to Blu-ray because of the obvious benefits of the technology, that just usually isn't the case. Content will always be the deciding factor. One of the reasons why many people switched to DVD from VHS was because DVD didn't have that rental window so there was added content there - consumers could buy movies as soon as they were released. If there are releases, especially things that start out as exclusives, unique to one format for whatever reason, I think that will be a bigger driving factor than the format's improved picture and sound. I see this release as roughly the equivalent of many of the tactics that encouraged consumers to switch to DVD, but at least DVD customers can still buy the movie at an affordable price on release, unlike VHS owners back in the day. Will this one release greatly affect the number of Blu-ray owners? No, but it does provide a little extra buzz for the new format. And then once a sufficient number of copies of this movie have been sold and then sold again as part of some boxset, you know what will probably happen? The movie will be released again, but this time as the director's cut edition. I have no doubt that the DC will eventually be released on DVD, but DVD customers' habits have also shown a willingness to repurchase titles. DVD has become king of the double-dip, and this title will likely be no different. The question keeps coming back about why would WB treat their majority customers this way. Well ... to make money. Give Blu-ray people an exclusive first look at the DC. They feel pleased and hopefully there will be a little bit extra buzz about the release to boost sales and help recoup some of the money that the movie was expected to make at the box office. Then 6 months or a year down the road, give the majority consumer the opportunity to buy the movie all over again with the director's cut release on DVD. And you know that many, many people will do just that. Some people here in this very thread saying they will not purchase this release probably will break down and buy it for $5 in some bargain bin only to return to the trough and buy the director's cut when it's released. I know I've done just that with many films that I really liked. That makes good business sense to me, although it admittedly screws over DVD owners. |
Re: terminator salvation 12/1
Take this Pro-Blu talk to the Blu-ray forum!!!!!
FOr the last time! If i go into one of those threads and talk about the advantages of DVD or that DVD still outsells Blu-ray 9 to 1 I would be told to get out and the posts would be deleted! WHy is it fair for you to come here and do the same?!!! |

All these Warner threads will be like this in the future. |

We are allowed to praise Blu-Ray in the DVD forum, just as you are allowed to criticize Blu-Ray in the Blu-Ray forum, as long as you do it in a civil manner that is relevant to the topic you're posting in. |
