Weird. I came home from work today to find a headless possum in my backyard. I'm sure my dogs are responsible, I just don't get why they only tore the head off and left the rest of the animal completely intact.

Also, put me down as liking The Ruins. I watched it last year and was pleasantly surprised. I'm sure the Blu-Ray will make it into my list before the month is over.

I'm in. I'm not sure if I was supposed to post here first or not... if so, oops.

I'm glad to see this idea has become a part of these challenges and evolved into what it is today.

I feel left out. My dog hasn't brought me or left me any dead things.

I liked The Ruins too - have put that on my list of ones to watch again sometime during the challenge. Getting ready to watch The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane. IMDB has it listed as horror, among other categories. Not sure based on the descriptions I have read if that is accurate, but since it is listed that way, gonna give it a try and see.

And my animals haven't brought me any dead things either - although one threw up during one of the movies. Guess everyone really is a critic!

I'll be one of the lone voices of dissent here... I though The Ruins was pretty meh. Interesting concept, but it just didn't hit the right beats for me to totally work. Worth watching, but I don't think I'd own it.

Trying to decide what to start my challenge off with tonight... I've gone through my collection and pulled all of my unwatched titles. So many to choose from!

Gonna give it a shot this year. Not even going to try for a hundred, don't have that much time. But I'll shoot for 31. Going to watch The House of the Devil tonight.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 5th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

Since this has momentarily turned into a RUINS discussion, I've only seen bits of it while channel-surfing before. Luckily, it'll come on cable throughout the month. Gonna add it to my list soon.

I've stocked up on some Lugosi/Karloff titles this year. So expect to see those (Along with some non-Lugosi Dracula and non-Karloff Frankenstein movies) to populate my list.

I'm also already liking the theme-night selections. I just so happened to pick up an appropriate title just last week!

Started the challenge with, "The Hills Run Red"

Wow, what a incompetent piece of crap this was. Bad acting, cliche after cliche, lame killer, and a stupid plot. The concept was ok, but, horribly executed.

So what movie were you watching that was so bad it made an animal puke? I want to be sure to avoid it.

It was actually during Cube. But this is the same animal that runs right to me for protection when I squirt him with water to get him off the counter, so I don't think his opinion of the movie matters much!

My cat would run around the room scared when I watched the War of the Worlds remake. It was around the beginning when the aliens started popping up and it was loud.

No other movie, no matter how loud, had the same effect.

Yep, that's the one. I had a lot of fun with it. Cool, creepy small-town atmosphere.

I'm also a fan of "The Grudge 3." I mean, it's not as good as the rest, but the creepy ghosts in those movies can still freak me out, so I enjoy them. I also like how they try to tie what happens in the third movie into the rest of the movies in the series. I think they do a pretty good job of that. So far, I'm having a lot of fun with this challenge and seeing a lot of cool little movies.

MY cat isn't allowed out of the house, so she hasn't brought me any dead animal gifts, but she DID attack my toes during the finale of "The Hollow." I think she's plotting to scare me to death.

I'm soooo bummed. I moved between last night and today and haven't set up my HT yet. I now need to take a test for class and am exhausted. I guess my challenge starts a day or two late

Vs

Just when I thought Bob, the fish lipped kid from "House by the Cemetery" who sounds like a 45-year-old woman and has an unnatural obsession with girls dolls couldn't be outdone, along comes bug-eyed, mother lovin' (literally) Michael from "Burial Ground".

^^^ Yes, Chad!!! I watched Burial Ground last year for the challenge (No. 25 on that list). It was awful to the point of near brilliance. I had such a fun time watching that bad movie.

Sorry, I just got a bit excited when I saw that someone else had actually watched that movie. The friend that loaned it to me hadn't even watched it!

Started out with The Craft, and then watched Flu Birds. Not the greatest, but not the worst film I ever saw. One of my blind buys down now. Planned on just watching one tonight, but lucky I got off work a little early so had time to pop one in right after work.

Question: Does Coraline count as a horror movie?

I would count it. It's dark and creepy enough.

Thanks to the person ( cant remember the name off hand, sorry ) who mentioned that Silent Scream will be released in November in their list. I've been looking for that for a while now. Too bad they couldn't release it in time for the challenge.
