THIS THREAD IS FOR DISCUSSION ONLY!

----> ACTUAL LISTS WILL GO HERE! <----

LINK IS OFFICIALLY ACTIVE!

<table border="1"><tr><TD BGCOLOR=#282828>
THE "RULES"
</td></tr><tr><TD BGCOLOR=#F4F4FF>Since 2005 the goal of the challenge has been to reach 100 horror / horror-related films. Your personal goal is as high or as low as you choose. Whether you achieve it, surpass it or don't even remotely come close to reaching it, the ultimate goal here is to enjoy yourself while conversing with fellow horror fans.</td><tr><TD BGCOLOR=#FFECB0>There will be a separate lists thread posted roughly 2 weeks prior to the start date. Be creative and personalize your list however you wish - give reviews, post pics, provide IMDB links with your titles, add YouTube videos, include running times (calculating total times is up to you), etc. The forum software now allows for unlimited post length, although you're still welcome to post it in a weekly or biweekly format. It's also recommended that you provide a link to the list in your signature for easier access. The only mandatory rule here is NUMBER YOUR LISTS!</td></tr><tr><TD BGCOLOR=#F4F4FF>What qualifies? If you're uncertain of the title's genre classification the IMDB and allmovie are good sources to determine its potential horror movie status. However, both sites have been known to make the occasional error and if you feel that's the case asking in the discussion thread is advised. Everything from Horror-comedies, Sci-Fi horror, wretchedly bad horror [INSERT CURRENT REMAKE HERE], kiddie horror, creature features, erotic horror, Masters of Horror (Yesssss, they're still considered movies) silents, made-for-TV movies, etc. will count. Mini-series count as 1 despite the running time. LEGITIMATE STAND-ALONE DOCUMENTARIES ONLY. NO FLUFF - That refers to featurettes produced exclusively for the film's disc as supplemental material. For example, don't try and pass off the featurettes, interviews, making of and the like as part of your list. TV SHOWS DO NOT COUNT (exception being those used as wild cards).</td><tr><TD BGCOLOR=#FFECB0>Commentaries are allowed as a "with or without" option.</td></tr><tr><TD BGCOLOR=#F4F4FF>DON'T VIEW THE SAME FILM MORE THAN ONCE! Remakes are the exception to the rule. In other words, don't watch the theatrical version of "The Exorcist" after already having viewed "The Exorcist: The Version You've Never Seen" and vice versa. The same holds true for all versions: director's cuts, unrated editions, colorized versions, fan edits, extended editions, "the version you supposedly couldn't see in a theater", etc. This is simply to encourage diversity and isn't set in stone.</td></tr><tr><TD BGCOLOR=#FFECB0>The formats and where / how you watch them is strictly your call -- DVD, Blu-ray, HD DVD, at the theater, on television, public domain downloads (links provided below), VHS, Laserdisc, Video On Demand, Netflix, UMD, MiniDV, CED, Unbox, through your neighbor's window, Apple TV, Watch Instantly, Hulu, Youtube, Payperview, Betamax, via laptop, VCD, iPhone...you name it. And yes, that even includes the pan & scan edited-for-television movies that air on TBS with multiple pop-ups and commercial interruptions (NOT recommended!). Just make sure the film is viewed in it's entirety.</td></tr><tr><TD BGCOLOR=#F4F4FF>KEEP IT CIVIL! Please leave the arguments, hostility, name calling and accusations at the door. The mods are constantly monitoring this thread and will take any necessary actions.</td></tr><tr><TD BGCOLOR=#FFECB0>You're welcome to include non-genre titles in your list, but please keep them separate from the qualifying ones and don't number them.</td></tr></table>

Are you a Netflix subscriber with an Xbox gold membership? Wanna have a NETFLIX PARTY?
If so, post your gamertag or send it via PM to Mister Peepers.

SEND A FRIEND REQUEST TO DVDTalkHorror to join the parties.

Feel free to host a party whenever you want.
If you're watching something check the DVDTalkHorror friend's list and invite people!

Just go to Friends ---> DVDTalkHorror ---> Personal Profile ---> View Friends.
And then you can just invite whoever is online on that list into a party.
Spoiler:
Recently, Microsoft updated the Netflix player on the 360. Among the changes is the addition called 'Netflix Parties'. Basically someone is a host and invites people to watch a movie together. Everyone watches it at the same time, and we can communicate w/ voice during the movie.

You need an Xbox 360, a gold account, and a Netflix subscription. There's only one catch: For right now, Starz Play and Disney movies are not allowed to be used for parties.

We can use this thread to pick out movies and times to watch them. We can try to vary things up.

While we can watch classics or stuff we've all seen, I think it would be interesting to check out stuff that the entire group may not have watched. We could even take a gamble and watch god knows what. I think even some riffing on intentionally bad movies could be good for a laugh if done sparingly.

I'm ready! Went through my unwatched pile and it contains just about 100 horror titles. Whether I get to 'em all or not remains to be seen, but we'll give it a go.

I have a ton of stuff ready and I never follow any plans I setup before any challenge starts, so why bother.

For the sci-fi one I bought the Star Trek movies on blu-ray, picked up the cartoon series, had the original show queued to watch instantly on netflix. Planned on watching them all. Instead I think I watched the first episode halfway through the month. That was my Star Trek marathon.

I would like to not watch as many direct to video horror as I did previously since they're mostly horrible.

This October is not going to be good for me as far as movie watching goes, but I'm looking forward to contributing what I can. And of course the lively discussions (we're good this year, Trevor? :) ).

Oh, and that bed movie...

Just looked over my unwatched list and I'm counting around 55 titles. I wonder if I can get through all of them in the month. That would still barely be half my goal, so it's possible.

Oh, I love October! Count me for a 5th time!

Last year I hit the 100 mark, this year I know I won't, but I'll watch what I can. Plus that William Castle box set comes out that month too, what a great chance to watch all of those!

I'm in again.

Last year I came in at 96! 4 more and I would have hit 100! Hopefully this year I can surpass it.. (I probably won't)

I think I will participate on this for the first time ever but with a simpler list and shooting to do 20-30 as I don't have any of my home entertainment set up yet. hopefully by Oct 1 it will be.

is this the discussion or the actual list thread? I'm so confused

question what is the title of that 'Bed' movie?

I'm very excited about doing this again! Definitely count me in.

Just one thing I'd like to mention about last year. If multiple people send out prizes again, let's just make sure they are reliable. I was supposed to receive something last year and the user never responded to me after I sent my address. I never received anything in the mail or a reply when I sent a couple of subsequent messages.

It's not that big of a deal. After all, I didn't go into the challenge expecting to win a prize, but it was disappointing that one of my fellow DVDTalkers/challenge participants left me hanging like that.

Yes.

Doesn't anyone ever read the first page? It's safe now! I even made the extra effort to tone down the migraine-inducing bright neon orange colors after that unfortunate incident where 3 participants were temporarily blinded last year. ;)

Looking forward to the challenge yet again this year, though I'm sure my total will again be pretty low.

At the risk of opening a can of worms, since Masters of Horror counts (and I agree with that whole heartedly), then does Fear Itself also count? Afterall it is basically MoH season 3. I don't feel strongly either way, but I just thought I'd throw it out there.

Thanks for arranging the craziness yet again Chad! :)

I just wanted to say that, while I mainly just lurk around here, this challenge always ropes me in every year. I actually haven't watched a horror movie since June (really hard for a horrorhound like me) just so I could be really pumped for it. Unfortunately it looks like I'll be working full time and have a full five class load during October so I know I'm not going to be able to watch nearly as many as I'd like.

I haven't been able to get to 100 the last 2 years. This year I'm gonna do something different to make it more fun to get me over the century mark.

I'm excited for this year. Since 2007 (when I first started doing these), I've gone from someone whom NEVER watched horror films with the exception of the original Halloween to someone that counts horror as one his favorite genres.

I think I've gotten my friend/assistant manager at work interested in trying this out as well (for himself, anyway, he's not a member of the site). Our goal is to at least watch one a day; whether that happens remains to be seen...

Anyone else suprised TCM is showing Evil Dead 2. Thats an odd choice, I wouldn't be suprised by Evil Dead 1 or Army of Darkness, but Evil Dead 2? lol
