FYI: Fry's Electronics is giving away posters w/ purchase of, I believe, any version of ROTF.

Re: Transformers Revenge of the Fallen---Oct 20th

as I suspected, that $15.86 WM deal was too good to be true - that DVD doesn't exist.

It's either:

$14+ for the regular 1-disc version
$19.96 for the exclusive 2-disc
$19.96 for the BD

oddly enough, I didn't see the regular 2-disc version.

I got the exclusive 2-disc.

I also noticed that the price shelf tag for the single disc version said $19.96, even though it was on sale for $14. If nobody asked, every DVD buyer would just buy the 2-disc version since WM made it seem that the 1-disc and exclusive 2-disc were the same price. Tricky bastards.

so does the 2 disc exclusive just switch aspect ratio's where appropriate? If i recall, Bay only did random shots during some of the fight scenes in IMAX, and it was only about 10 minutes worth in total

yes it does change aspect ratio. The first change is about an hour in during the forest battle.

Re: Transformers Revenge of the Fallen---Oct 20th

thats strange. i just read a bluray review on ign which claims that format doesn`t change:

http://bluray.ign.com/articles/103/1036444p1.html

"The forest fight, a CG-fest mastered with IMAX in mind, is the scene to test out on your home system. (Note: Unlike The Dark Knight BD, which "went to full screen" for every IMAX sequence, Fallen retains its 2.39 letterbox throughout. However, only Wal-Mart is carrying the IMAX edition of the film.)"

Sounds like they did not get the IMAX version of the Blu-ray for review.

Just got back from Wal-Mart and bought the 2 disc SD Big Screen edition. It was $14.21 before tax without doing any kind of pricematching. Didn't check the prices of the other versions.

Also, I checked the runtimes of both the 1 disc and 2 disc.

1 disc wm was 149 min.
2 disc wm was 150 min.

But the regular 1 and 2 disc and BDs are 149 and 150 mins as well. The IMDB runtime is also 150 min.

What is it about the 1 min difference? Is it an error or misprint and how come the big screen edition doesn't indicate a longer runtime? Is that also an oversight? I thought the IMAX version had extended scenes rather than just a larger film format used for certain shots?

dEEahn20,

well that's interesting. I looked in every aisle to see if my WM had that price version. Nothing, just a $19.96 version. Maybe I should check another WM.

Thanks for the heads up!

EDIT: called another WM, same $19.96 price. Oh well.

If you read all of the threads, pricing on the WM edition has been all over the board today. My guess is that it will be corrected to $19.96 within the next day or two.

It is weird because all the way up to the register I was expecting to pay $19.96. I picked it out from one of those cardboard aisle setups which had both 1 and 2 discs and both prices listed, $14.xx and $19.xx. The prices were on the those small red tags and not the big white ones usually on top and I didn't really read them.

When I got rung up I was like "cool" but I checked to see if I grabbed the wrong one or if the outerslip cover was switched by someone, but nope it is the 2 disc BS version I got for 14.96. The receipt says "WAS 19.96 YOU SAVED 5.75." I live in Southern California so if you're in the area tell them that Brea WM has it for 14.96. Hope you guys can get a price adjustment. Whether it's worth a return trip is a matter of personal choice I guess, but I hope you guys do cause that's not fair.

So are the imax scenes extended material or just the film format difference? I know the imax theatrical version is longer but these dvd runtimes are not indicating that.

If it is just the film format difference, I'd rather not have the changing aspect ratios because my oppo sd dvd player running on a 46" 1080P display won't really show the difference bt what what was shot on 70mm vs 35mm film but it will show the changing aspect ratios I find worthwhile only if there is extended material.

Can someone please clarify? Thanks.

did some research on slickdeals after I read your post and yes, the prices vary all over the country. Georgia had it for $13+

I decided not to waste my time with the prices anymore and I already busted open the DVD. I think I annoyed my downstairs apartment neighbors when I was blasting the intro Shanghai scene.

Prices have always varied on new releases at different Walmarts. It's nothing new or special.

I never noticed. Plus all the regular prices are the same, but now I know. Glad mine was one of the cheaper ones :)

OT: That loss yesterday was a heartbreaker. We need a miracle. Go Dodgers! End of OT.
