Why Is Monsters Vs. Aliens not in 3-D???
 

I was looking at the amazon listing for the Blu-Ray of Monsters Vs. Aliens and It has a 3d extra but it doesnt say anything about the main feature...Why is it not In 3-D

I don't think any Disney movies are presented in 3D for home viewing.

Monster vs. Aliens is a DreamWorks release and Paramount/DreamWorks has decided to not to do 3D for home video market until its hardware technology improves. There are various threads with complaints about the 3D looking terrible for Coraline and other titles if you search for them. Apparently, DreamWorks agrees with consumers and feels if it can't be done right, why bother offering it. The 3D extra they are putting on the disc may provide the reason for their decision.

They don't want to release poor quality anaglyph conversions because it could make people mistakenly believe that that's what the theatrical 3-D presentations look like. They've stated they'll wait for the new Blu-ray 3-D shutter glasses standard before re-issuing quality 3-D versions for the home.

Still, adding the anaglyph short seems to defeat that purpose and may fool some people into thinking a 3-D version of the feature is included in the package. It's a bad idea.

I'd rather have the option to watch it in 3D if I want to, which would also be one of the selling points for me. I didn't think Coraline looked that bad. Freddy's Dead is what bad 3D is.

True, some anaglyph conversions are better than others, but they all far inferior a theatrical polarized 3-D presentation.

Yes, but we're watching the DVD and Blu-rays at home. I'd rather have something than nothing. Then it can get another release when the mystical blu-ray 3D comes out.
