http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releas...-the-plan.html
Some early details:
Further Details:
Universal Home Video has announced DVD ($26.98) and Blu-ray ($39.98) releases of Battlestar Galactica: The Plan for the 27th October. Extras will include a filmmaker commentary, deleted scenes, and featurettes ("From Admiral to Director: Edward James Olmos and The Plan", "The Cylons of The Plan", "The Cylon Attack", "Behind The Plan"). The Blu-ray release will also include additional BD-Live features ("My Scenes", "Battlestar Galactica Trivia"). Stay tuned for the official package artwork.
This is a little weird since this isn't scheduled to air on SyFy until November.

Not necessarily...the pilot film for CAPRICA was released on DVD earlier this year, and it still hasn't yet been shown on Sci Fi (sorry, the new name is dumb as hell and I refuse to use it).....

Well isn't is normal for things like this to come out on DVD first? That way all the die-hards have to make a purchase in order to see it first? Like mentioned above it was done with 'Capricia' (which won't air until AT LEAST April) as well as the "Stargate SG-1" films...

If I had to guess, there might be a few old clips, but only set the setting, then pan over and see what else was happening.

No, it's all new footage, but it's supposed to be set during the first couple seasons to show what the Cylons were doing during pivotal plot points.

Well the movie was conceived (and later filmed) during the third and fourth seasons of the series. I think its a pretty interesting idea to see what was going from a different point of view. Not to mention a rather cheap and not-that-involved way of seeing if their is a market for future direct-to-dvd 'battlestar galactica' adventures.

Because it sells like crack-covered hotcakes on DVD. There simply were not enough Nielson families watching to keep it on TV. Doesn't mean the fans aren't out there.
Besides, they could have told ten seasons worth of stories in that 'verse. Moore may have given the polite and diplomatic response of only needing four seasons, but I don't buy it for a minute. I look forward to many more movies like this exploring a lot of the ideas that barely got touched on in the series.
(And I'd sell a damn kidney for a "young Adama" 5-6 ep mini-series starring the guy from the flashbacks in Razor)

Just realized something, the TV cut should be about 88-90 minutes to fit into a 2 hour TV slot, but the DVD cut was supposed to be a good 10-20 minutes longer. The tvshowsondvd release doesn't say anything about that. I hope they're not looking for a double dip here.

Ok, valid points, but I think I'll still rent this one first.

Re: Battlestar Galactica: The Plan -------> October 27, 2009
I went to the comic convention in Philadelphia about a month ago and there was a panel with Edward James Olmos (Adama and the director of "The Plan"). He said the DVD of "The Plan" would clock in around 155 minutes.

This new film was directed by Olmos and written by Jane Espenson. So, no it's not a clip show. Also, not all the characters from the series returned to this film.

If that's true, the network version will have some serious edits.

Yeah, that's closer to the number I heard. Here's hoping it's just an imcomplete press release.

So... it looks this won't include the "Face of the Enemy" webisodes like some had suspected.

Re: Battlestar Galactica: The Plan -------> October 27, 2009
^So then the "Complete" x-fles set isnt "complete" cause it doesnt have I Want to believe in it?
The Stargate SG-1 set isnt "complete" cause it doesnt have Continuum and Ark of Truth?
The upcoming Futurama set isnt complete cause it wont have the new episodes Comedy Central recently ordered?
I guess it might not technically be complete but I dont think leaving it out is a reason to bitch.

It's not like The Plan is coming out years after the complete series set. It probably was completed around the same time as the set.

Re: Battlestar Galactica: The Plan -------> October 27, 2009
I think I will wait and watch it on TV rather than blind-buying it. One can only hope it is better than the (new) series was. There was way too much drama and the cameraman must have been on crack.

^Why even watch The Plan on tv if you didn't like the series? Or is it cool to rag on BSG now?

Not that I am questioning Universal's decision-making, but they actually completed filming The Plan last September, so it was indeed feasible to include this in the complete series set. This was actually suppose to air last month.
