Re: October '09 Criterions
Perhaps the cupboard is growing bare, but I'm a little disappointed that we have another month of stuff that has been previously available on R1 DVD (with the exception of the Eclipse set.) At least all the (now with higher prices!) Blu-rays are new-to-Criterion-Collection stuff (although 'Howards End' isn't really) shifting the balance of their BD catalog from stuff I've bought previously in lower rez, otherwise identical DVD versions to stuff never before available in the Criterion Collection (but also -- unfortunately -- stuff I'm not particularly enthusiastic about and/or stuff I've already got on DVD.) I wish we could get more new to DVD stuff (although most of those titles don't get the BD treatment, so I probably wouldn't buy them anyway...)
Presumably the $50 'Gimme Shelter' BD is coming the following month (November '09) to accompany the 'Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out!' reissue and Altamont 40 (although the latter anniversary could suggest a December release.)

Wow. What a month. I'm in for Z and Monsoon Wedding. I'll wait for a deal on Makavejev, but it'll definitely be on the want list.
Wings of Desire is a fine film, but I don't really have any desire to revisit it.

^ and rightfully so, I'm taking advantage of the 50% sale at Barnes and Nobles on some Criterions I've been meaning to pick up for some time.

Hmmm. Already have the MGM "Wings of Desire" - will probably stick with that. "Monsoon Wedding" is a really good movie, but not sure I'll pick it up. Never saw "Z"... may have to give that a spin. That Eclipse set sounds very interesting, as well...

Wow so happy about that Wings of Desire release, been wanting to see it for so long now and it went out of print on DVD. Will be getting that, and definitely taking a look at Z as well

Come on guys; where's the Kwaidan rerelease? I'm thisclose to buying the Eureka disc to test out how well my region unlocking worked. You're almost pushing me to it guys. Great to see Wings of Desire though. Hopefully it'll have those lost extras.

'Kwaidan' screams out for a hidef release, and of course the longer cut.

Re: October '09 Criterions
why is Z the only one NOT getting blu treatment? that's a terrible shame - and seems one especially suited for it in order to convince more potential buyers to upgrade over the inferior earlier release. it's a shame.

Re: October '09 Criterions
I just watched Wings of Desire for the first time. I enjoyed it, I'm still a little confused but I really liked it. I bought the MGM DVD from a guy I know who is upgrading to the Criterion disc. He sold it to me for $5 so I think I got a good deal. Now my question is: Do I need to upgrade to the Criterion release when it comes out?
