Chinatown (Centennial Collection) --> 10/06/09

http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=71078
Paramount Home Entertainment have announced the Region 1 DVD release of Chinatown (Centennial Collection) on 6th October 2009. A landmark movie in the film noir tradition, Roman Polanski's Chinatown stars Jack Nicholson as private eye Jake Gittes. Hired by a beautiful socialite (Faye Dunaway) to investigate her husband's extra-marital affair, Gittes is swept into a maelstrom of double dealings and deadly deceits, uncovering a web of personal and political scandals that come crashing together for one, unforgettable night in...Chinatown.

Features include:
■English Mono (Restored) & DD5.1
■French, Portuguese and Spanish Mono
■English, French, Portuguese and Spanish subtitles
■Featurette: “Chinatown: An Appreciation”
■Featurette: “WATER AND POWER”
■Audio Commentary by writer Robert Towne with special guest David Fincher

The list of extras may not be final.

Looks like different extras then the previous SE especially the commentary with David Fincher!, but not sure worth a new one.

This was re-released just a couple years back, so they (seem to be) just going back to the well to suck some more bucks from SD buyers before Blu-Ray.

Ah, that would be a no from this buyer.

What a bullshit double dip. The latest release is practically still hot off the press. That said, I'll buy it.

I am not a Polanski fan at all, but I might have to bite for this one due to the Fincher commentary.

I'm passing on this, only because Paramount's supposedly planning on releasing this on Blu-Ray next year (they SHOULD have been doing them the same day as the standard releases...)

I do believe I will be on this release like a hooker on money.

I don't have any of the previous releases so there's no question I'll be picking up this one.

Damn it. I just bought Chinatown the new edition in February. Ugh...that Fincher Commentary has me biting.

For me, I think they'd have to pony up more extras than this to rebuy (or those two featurettes would have to be really long and in-depth).

A great movie, but I have the previous single-disc SE (that I just watched not long ago), and I'm pretty happy with it.

Sorry, Paramount .... there are enough titles I haven't single-dipped on yet for this to warrant more of my money.

Excellent movie, but I am also happy with the collector's edition released a few years ago, so no sale for me as well.
Now, if Paramount would release a new and improved Rosemary's Baby dvd, I would be all over that in a heartbeat!

I would LOVE a SE of Rosemary's Baby. I don't think it would be out of the realm for Paramount to do an SE under this line for that film, maybe with a Blu release along with it...

If this wasn't more-or-less confirmed for a Blu release next year, I would bite (although it might just be me, but the extras for this seem rather weak compared to the descriptions for some of the other films under this line; maybe they're more in-depth then they let on). But as much as I love Chinatown, I've already got the current SE; I can wait for the Blu to upgrade.

I'm surprised it's taken this long to continue the Centennial line. They were coming out about 2 films every two months up until this past May, and now we have to wait until October for at least this next title. I'm thrilled it's "Chinatown", as I was hoping it would gain entry into this collection regardless of its re-release a couple years ago (which I almost jumped on prior to this announcement, whew!). Yes, "Rosemary's Baby" could definitely stand a new release, and this line would be perfect. Another one I think deserves the Centennial treatment is "Nashville".
