Authentic Star Trek The Motion Pictures DVD Collection

I am looking for a new copy of the Star Trek: The Motion Pictures DVD Collection that isn't one of those over-priced cheapo Chinese bootlegs that are floating around. All of the stores I have tried are out of stock since it has been discontinued by the manufacturer. Does anyone know where I might find an authentic new copy for a reasonable price? I may consider a used copy if the condition and price are right.

Title: Star Trek: The Motion Pictures DVD Collection - 20 DVD set
UPC: 097360341942
ASIN: B000A6T262 (Amazon Product Id)
Release Date: Oct 04, 2005

Also, I would like to know how to determine if the copy I eventually buy is the genuine article. Do the individual DVD cases use the security seals and Y-fold wrap that are typical of most DVD's? Are there any inserts found inside the DVD cases? Etc...

Any advice is much appreciated.

Record & Tape Traders in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. They had one (NEW) as of last week. I'm pretty sure the price was around $75.00.
Here is the companies website: http://www.recordandtapetraders.com/

Legitimate sets have inserts for movies 1 thru 5. Movies 6 thru 10 were not released with inserts.

Depending on how new the copy is none of the movies might have a insert.

You have personally experienced this?

Re: Authentic Star Trek The Motion Pictures DVD Collection

Thanks for the advice. I tried Record & Tape Traders this morning and unfortunately, they no longer have it. I did manage to find one store that had it the other day but the teenish-sounding person I spoke with said I would have to come into the store to buy it which is all but impossible because I live 2000 miles away. They would not ship, go figure.

This is true of most DVDs, although I do think the odds of getting inserts is slightly better with the box sets, depending on how popular the set is. Usually the sets sit on the shelf longer, so you're more likely to get a "first run" set with the booklets.

Does anyone know if there are any plans to rerelease all the movies on standard? in a set or individually?

In my set, Treks I through IV, VI, and VIII through X came without inserts and "plain" gray disc art. Trek V was the only to have an insert and V and VII were the only ones that had disc art.

Bought it a couple of years back for under $40 when Paramount was blowing them out, so I can't complain too much...

He means regular DVD, as opposed to Blu-ray. The Original Crew movie collection (movies 1-6) was recently released on Blu-ray, but NOT on regular (standard) DVD.

Okay, then there must have been different (legit) releases, as the non-bootlegs that I've seen all had full-color disc art AND inserts for movies 1 thru 5.

Re: Authentic Star Trek The Motion Pictures DVD Collection

I finally managed to locate an authentic new copy from a retail store in another state for $69.99 plus $10.00 shipping. I will take detailed pictures of it prior to and after opening for the benefit of others seeking authentic copies as well. I was surprised at just how many pirated copies are offered for sale.

This collection was NOT easy to find!

I owned the set last year but sold it to help with car expenses. 1 - 4 & 6 - 10 had grayscale disc art with no inserts. Part 6 had disc art and an insert though.

Re: Authentic Star Trek The Motion Pictures DVD Collection

Does anyone know if the individual DVD cases within the set have the white security seals along the edge of the case where it opens? You know, those things we all love trying to remove.

First run printings have the disc art and booklets. Later pressings cut costs by losing the booklets and using gray finish disc art.

BUMMER! I'm kinda pissed I didn't pick it up myself. Ohh well... I'll find all the titles for $5.00 in time.

I've only seen it at 2 places retail: TWEC stores (FYE, Suncoast, etc.) and Fry's.

I've seen it at FYE and Best Buy. Any difference in the set, versus the individual 2 disc editions?

Nope. The Collection is just all 2-Disc Editions bundled in one set with an outer box.

Also in addition to FYE, Suncoast and Best Buy, Borders had this set as well. Last time I saw it at my local Best Buy was earlier this year around Spring.

Re: Authentic Star Trek The Motion Pictures DVD Collection

I know of some possible other sources to get this title for $69.99 but I prefer to wait until my copy arrives before revealing them. I say possible because they had it in stock as of yesterday but may or may not have it when my copy finally arrives.

I don't think you have to be that cautious. Many of us bought all of these for $5 each, and they will be that price again.

After the trouble I went through just finding this title, I am leaving nothing to chance. It could get lost in the mail, be damaged during shipment, anything.

However, rest assured, I will reveal what I know when my copy arrives safely because I am funny like that and do not make false promises. It is only meant as a heads up for those who are interested.

I know I got the vast majority of the titles for 4.99 or so. Didnt walmart have many of the 2 disc editions for 5.00 for a while?
