Nope! Sorry

Re: WATCHMEN Director's Cut DVD

Why was there any debate of whether or not the movie would be split onto two discs?

Yes and No. If that was the case I'd get the film reels and put them on my film projector here.

With WB, you never know when some movies are gonna be split over two discs.

Look at the theatrical cut of Alexander.

Re: WATCHMEN Director's Cut DVD

So, for someone that wasnt a fan of the comic, and thought the theatrical version was terrible, does the directors cut improve it at all? Does it make the story easier to follow if they hadnt read the comic previously?

i'm not sure how added scenes with more stuff would make a story easier to follow. usually, the theatrical, is the more non-fan oriented easy viewing version. usually.

Not really. This directors cut is more like an extended version - it doesnt really make it a huge difference as it did with directors cut of kingdom of heaven or troy.

I would seriously doubt it since most of the deleted footage consists of the newspaper stand and the characters there and other scenes that were not integral to the story as a whole, but were part of the graphic novel.

I can almost guarantee that one of the 5 discs will be a digital copy. Still excited for it though, now it's just a waiting game.

From Comingsoon.net:

"Though WB confirmed that an "Ultimate Edition" will be hitting later (around Christmas), Snyder emphasized that the July edition's features won't be repeated and that the later release will be a more or less "movie-only" version, incorporating the "Black Freighter" footage back into the film. Though the later set's running time will be the longest version possible, Snyder's preferred cut will be the version hitting July 21st and that that version will contain the greatest special features. While the "Ultimate" version will not include the walk-ons, it will have an exclusive audio-only commentary."

If the version coming out on the 21st has the cream of the crop special features, that is pretty disappointing.

EDIT: If the DVD Set is 5 Discs, and assuming it does include the Motion Comic, then it will probably look something like this:and

Disc 1: Ultimate Cut Part One
Disc 2: Ultimate Cut Part Two
Disc 3: The Motion Comic Chapters I-VI
Disc 4: The Motion Comic CHapters VII-XII
Disc 5: Digital Copy

And the Blu-ray set would probably end up being only 3 Discs.

All in all, the 5-Disc Edition doesn't sound all that great; aside from including the longer version, it would seem pretty pointless. I hope they are downplaying the special features of the 5-Disc to get people more interested in the one coming out in July.

what does an audio only commentary mean? Aren't most commentaries audio only..or does it mean that it won't have a video commentary?

Also...I guess I'd better get this Director's cut eh? So...Blu for sure..cuz it seems that one has the most Special features?

Thanks for answerign my question. Sounds like if someone saw the theatrical version and thought it was a complete mess, that the director's cut isnt going to improve upon that, unfortunately.

I don't agree with this and neither does the majority of Watchmen fans i know online (and the few i know offline). Now of course if you didn't like Snyder's interpretation of the material at all, then you won't suddenly like the DC. However, if your problems with the TC didn't stem from the artistic choices, but from the uneven pacing and seemingly abrupt nature of some scenes, then i think that the DC significantly improves on these factors.

What i like about the DC is that it isn't just new scenes randomly put in (save for maybe one i thought wasn't needed), but that there is lots of connective tissue, so to speak. You see, Snyder didn't just cut out complete scenes, he also trimmed down a lot of scenes to meet studio demands (he had to cut the film to IMAX length). The consequence of this was that many scenes seemed a bit rushed, like they were trying to get to the point as fast as possible, having no room to breathe, some character motivations were harder to grasp, and even though i generally liked the TC, it definitely showed. Coupled with the scenes that were completely removed from the TC, i feel that some of the characters and their relationships are much more fleshed out in the DC. The one that has benefited the most from the added footage is without a doubt Laurie (Silk Spectre II), who pretty much got the short end of the stick in the TC.

So if you had a problem with the general style of the movie, the DC won't change your mind, but if you had a problem with the pacing and the slightly rushed/disconnected nature of a lot of the scenes from the TC, then you should definitely check out the DC, at least as a rental. While it isn't perfect, the DC goes a long way to fix most of the narrative problems and is imo definitely the superior cut of the film, not just from the perspective of a fan who wanted "more of the same".

That answers my questions. I did indeed have a problem with the "pacing and the slightly rushed/disconnected nature of a lot of the scenes ". I imagine that this wasnt the case with someone that knew the story well before seeing the movie. I will most likely rent the DC at soem point to see if these issues have indeed been worked out.

Re: WATCHMEN Director's Cut DVD

Do we know if the Ultimate Cut is going to be released by itself, at least on Blu-ray? I already bought the Motion Comic AND the Hollis Mason Behind the Mask/Black Freighter. I knew they were going to include the Black Freighter into the movie, but all the other extras are stuff I already paid for once.
