Re: "Official" DVDTalk Challenges Compendium
Oh wow, May 1st is approaching fast isn't it? I'm in for the Make-Your-Own-Challenge challenge.
|
Re: "Official" DVDTalk Challenges Compendium
Who did the MYOC last year?
(checks history) Oh, it was me. I can do it again unless someone else wants to. |
Re: "Official" DVDTalk Challenges Compendium
Dang, I forgot I also did historical last year. I can make a thread in the next day or two unless someone else is dying to.
|
Re: "Official" DVDTalk Challenges Compendium
I created the historical list thread.
I realized from the text of a previous thread that we used to start this on Memorial Day weekend--whoops. So I set it to start today so we can use this whole weekend for watching--why not? I requested a sticky on the list thread, but moderation of the DVD Talk subforum appears to be about as dead as the DVD media format, so it might take a couple weeks for that to happen. |
Re: "Official" DVDTalk Challenges Compendium
Just wanted to let people know I am still planning on hosting July and August's challenges. I'll get the threads up for July sometime tonight or tomorrow.
Update: Discussion thread is up here. |
Re: "Official" DVDTalk Challenges Compendium
Created the Animation discussion thread here. List thread will go up in a couple days.
|
Re: "Official" DVDTalk Challenges Compendium
Will there be a Criterion/Arthouse Challenge this year? It's been a small group these past few years, but some are still interested in keeping it going, particularly with the crossover with the Horror Challenge.
I know nothing about hosting a Challenge, but would be happy to help out if needed. |
Re: "Official" DVDTalk Challenges Compendium
I'm sure the challenge will happen. The question is whether Travis is planning to run it again. He doesn't hang around the forum a lot, but he does have a soft spot for challenges, especially this one.
|
Re: "Official" DVDTalk Challenges Compendium
I just reached out to Travis off forum and he'll post soon.

Re: "Official" DVDTalk Challenges Compendium
Sorry, y'all! I have to pass on hosting the Art House/Criterion Challenge this year. I hope to at least participate but even that's iffy.

Re: "Official" DVDTalk Challenges Compendium
I think you should give it a try! Maybe start by creating the discussion thread and see how that goes. I usually “quote” the first post of the previous thread in order to copy the code, then paste it into a new thread and adjust for the new year. You can always tweak the opening post later—the only thing you won’t have the power to edit later is the thread title (like if you have to fix the year). A mod will have to do that. You can “reserve” a second post for additional instructions if you want.
If that looks good, next step will be the list thread! |

Re: "Official" DVDTalk Challenges Compendium
Thanks all! I won't be home for a few hours, but will take a stab at it then. Fingers crossed.

Re: "Official" DVDTalk Challenges Compendium
Yep, what David said! That's pretty much all there is to it. If you do it again, you can do things like propose checklist changes or organize prizes but it's sufficient to just copy and paste, change some dates, and start the two threads. You can try prompting discussion in the discussion thread. This particular challenge has always had a low level of participation so don't take it personally if all you get are crickets. The regulars are housebroken so you won't have any problems with poor behavior. Thank you for stepping up and relieving me! It's my favorite challenge but next month will have a lot of scheduled chaos already.

Re: "Official" DVDTalk Challenges Compendium
If no one else steps up. I saw I ran the TV on DVD Challenge last year. So I will have the thread up sometime before Christmas. Likely by Monday.

Re: "Official" DVDTalk Challenges Compendium
Discussion thread and list thread posted

Re: "Official" DVDTalk Challenges Compendium
Morning everyone. I just finished my entries for the TV-on-DVD Challenge so unless someone else is interested in the undertaking, I'll post the Oscar Challenge threads later on today.
|
Re: "Official" DVDTalk Challenges Compendium
Romance/music challenge is live. It overlaps with Oscars as usual.

Re: "Official" DVDTalk Challenges Compendium
Looking at last year, I was the one who ran the A/A/C/M challenge. Unless someone else wishes to step up, I will post the threads sometime next week.

Re: "Official" DVDTalk Challenges Compendium
Discussion and List threads have been posted.

Re: "Official" DVDTalk Challenges Compendium
This is about the time of the month when I wonder if someone is going to create the next month's challenge, and I look it up and see I did it last year. So I just created the MYOC threads.
I see I also did historical last year, so I'll plan to do that again unless someone else is hankering to try it. |
