I have all 4 Highlander films. (The Source doesn't exist, I'm sorry.) To make owning 2 bearable, I keep it right before 4, pretending it's some crazy dream Connor had while in the Sanctuary. Yeah.

Here's on for ya! When you run out of shelf space for all your Box Sets you buy those 8-12 Disk Cases (For Example the ones you can get at http://shop4tech.com) and put Disks in those, freeing up Shelf Space for MORE DVDs!:D

Yeah, I used to be a total completest and would feel pressure to buy every sequel/prequel, despite how shitty it was.

I finally decided to weed most of the crap and sell it for what little it was worth.

Now, not only do I have more space, but friends and family also stopped pointing and laughing.

Unconsciously, I look at the insert side when I open new DVDs.

I (may) spend more time buying, organizing, and talking about DVDs than watching them, and I watch a lot.

Re: How many of you are so DVD obsessed that you…

I am very selective when it comes to my collection. I have been collecting for about 9 years now and only have 120 DVDs, so I don't have the completest problem with sequels and what not.

Like Mountain Biker, I will only buy new & sealed DVDs. I didn't realize that some people may find that strange. I never thought about why I am this way, but I guess its partially because when I get something used, it always feels like it belongs to someone else and not me.

I have theatrical and extended/director's cut versions of a couple films, but I don't think I've gone overboard with it.

I only buy the films in series that I really like. Why waste more money or space on stinkers? I have the 1st, 3rd and 4th Indiana Jones flicks; hate Temple of Doom. I have Spidey 2, don't like 1 or 3. Have the first two Star Wars, none of the others. Adore the first two Terminators, hate the newer ones. Etc.

This might be an appropriate place to bring this up, although it probably only applies to those of us with 1000+ collections.

Does anyone else have sort of a "save the best for last" philosophy? I never buy anything that I don't plan to watch, but I sit thru some real awful movies, knowing in advance that they are probably going to be awful, when things like The Godfather trilogy sat on my shelf unwatched for years.

I always finish a movie. Even if its the worst movie I've ever seen. I would feel wrong starting a movie and not finishing it. How could I even truly say I hated it if I never finished it? That reminds me... I gotta break open my Godfather trilogy as well...

I used to buy anything that I was interested as long as I could find it cheap. I bought some crap back in the day.

A few years ago I started really controlling my spending, and now I hardly buy at all. Part of growing up, I guess. More important things to spend money on.

Now when a new edition of a movie comes out, I sell off the old one. Same with when I upgrade to Blu-Ray.

I bought the Robocop 20th aniv. edition with the metal case, so of course I had to pick up the less than classics Robocop 2 and 3.

I also HAD to have the King Kong - Peter Jackson's Production Diaries, Both the special edition and extended version of the movie as well as the set that contains the original Kong, Son of Kong and Might Joe Young.

A nephew of mine tore the slipcover of my Pulp Fiction collectors edition, everything else was fine, but still, I sold it at a pawn shop and bought a new one for $13 at walmart - just to have an undamaged slipcover.

I have all four James Bond box sets, and I MUST watch them in order. I can not watch the next one until I have seen all of the bonus features of the one I just watched AND read the booklet of that same movie.

although this thread is totally sad, depressing, and a good reminder to control oneself, this is one of the best threads ever!

Whenever I buy a DVD, new or used, upon opening it, I always unconsciously check the bottom of the DVD to see if it's stained or scratched. However, if it's a two or more disker (for extras), I rarely check to see if those DVD bottoms or scratched or stained.

+1...although I check every disc. And if I get a used copy that is scratched (and was cheap enough that's it's not worth it to return), I'll burn a copy and slide it behind the cover art. Yeah, I know, you don't have to say it.

Re: How many of you are so DVD obsessed that you…

Too many double dips to mention, most of them just for the variant artwork/cool packaging (steelbooks, graphic novels included, etc).
Have mananged to cut back on crappy sequels though.
I used to have the time to watch the extras on multi-disc sets, not so much anymore, but I still go for the two disc set/SE/UE, etc over the single, cos, someday there will be enough time to watch it all. Of course, at the same time, bonus features are not generally as plentiful as they were a few years ago.
And if a movie is out with multiple packaging options - like the dark night batpod/double disc/mask /steelbook editions - i have to have them all, even though its the same movie. thats why i like this forum. people here understand that need.

Yes on the SW trilogy, for exclusives.

And even worse, I bought 3 copies of SWD thinking that the three bonus discs were all different. Never would have bothered for just packaging, I just didn't read the packaging correctly and ended up with three copies of something I didn't want in the first place.

The three different covers of the steelbooks do have different content, at least the Best Buy versions do.

I used to be a Temple of Doom-hater, but after seeing Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, it's my favorite of the series. I think this is because it feels the most distinct of the four; the other three all follow the same basic plot structure. Playing the LEGO video game version also made me a bigger fan of Mola Ram. In any event, my wife bought me the original trilogy boxed set for my birthday when it came out in '03 (even if she did buy the full screen version that I exchanged for the proper, widescreen edition--to this day, she nags me and I can't tell how serious she is about it). Not owning one of the first three wasn't an option.

I will say, in regards to the overall subject of the thread, that I will upgrade a release, but under certain conditions. First, the film must be unaltered (save for remastering). For instance, I kept Daredevil even after getting the director's cut, because they're two different cuts of the film. Secondly, the bonus materials must be preserved. Thankfully, the James Bond DVD's have kindly retained previous materials each time out, freeing me to sell off the replaced editions. In general, I try to buy whatever is the most loaded edition upon release of a title that interests me. I have the 2-disc limited edition of Lawrence of Arabia and unless someone unearths a David Lean commentary track or I and that movie both meet again in Blu Ray-land, I cannot fathom a more comprehensive release that would cause me to consider another dip.

I am not a packaging collector, other than trying to be particular when I choose which edition I will buy in the first place. I decided I would rather have the 2-disc release of Transformers than the 20-minute motion comic disc that came with the single-disc version at Walmart, so I passed on their exclusive for the greater bonus content. (I was elated to find the WM disc by itself for $2.00 used at Half Price Books later.)

Wow... Umm... I'm not even sure what to say to that. Those are some pretty big franchises you named there. I cant even imagine what you would have to say about some of the title in my collection. LOL. To each his own I guess...

Is this post serious? Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation is the bomb and the original is just o.k.? I enjoy sarcasm, but I can't tell with this post.
