According to this list of new MPAA ratings, director's cuts of Friday and Menace II Society have both received R ratings from the MPAA, leading to my own speculation that new DVD and/or Blu-ray releases are coming very soon. IIRC Friday was announced as an initial Blu-ray/HD-DVD launch title but hasn't been released yet, and Menace II Society has been issued as an unrated director's cut on the Criterion laserdisc of the film. Either way, I'll probably grab both of these.

Friday is flat-out hilarious (I still at the thought of Chris Tucker getting $1 to buy his mom cigarettes..."That ain't enough!" "MAKE IT ENOUGH!"), and I've been dying to see Menace's extended version for a while, a brilliant and underrated film that makes Boyz N the Hood look like a nature trail hike.

I'm getting both if it turns out to be true!

Been holding off on buying Menace for a LONG time now in hopes of this...it's hard not owning one of my favorite movies, so I hope you're right.

I'm dying to get my hands on proper versions of Menace (and hopefully Dead Presidents).....Blu-ray versions would make me even happier!

Would definitely double dip for both of those.

I'd KILL to get at least a 16:9 Dead Presidents.

I'd definitely check out Menace.

Friday's worth a rental, IMO.

Woot! I don't know anything about Set it Off, but I'm down for the other two.

Cover art doesn't look too hot, especially Friday.

I dunno, I liked the Set It Off and Menace to Society cover arts but Friday is just terrible

Set It Off is a decent movie, I remember enjoying it when I watched it

Set it Off is better than I thought it would be. A reunion commentary with the leads would have been a blast, but oh well. Actually it looks like F. Gary Gray (Who directed both that and Friday) doesn't appear to be a fan of commentaries.

I was too concerned with the specs to notice the covers at first. And yes, pretty bad. Big frickin' SPOILER on that Menace cover.

It's pretty disturbing that New Line is letting that happen.

Along with an uncut Dead Prez, all we need now is an Uncut Jason's Lyric and I'll be set.

Regarding Set It Off, they could have at least added En Vogue's "Don't Let Go". You know, the one that actually became a sizable hit? I know that Ray J is kinda popular nowdays, but come ON!!!

After taking a look at that Friday cover, one has to wonder whether Warner outsourced cover design to Sony.

Bone's "Days Our Our Lives" (One of my most favorite Bone tunes) was also on that soundtrack.

Man, New Line really screwed that one up.

I will buy Menace II Society on DVD.
I will prob. pick up Set it off when I find it for $5 or less.
I have the Ice Cube 4 film favorites with all 3 Friday movies so I will easily pass on this new version.

Have you guys looked at the existing Friday DVD cover recently?



It's very early 1990's... The new cover isn't exactly an improvement, but I can do without the whole yellow/blue color scheme going on on the existing DVD cover.

I have Friday on DVD. It's not a great cover, but I think it's much better than the new one.

While the colors might be different, at least the original DVD looks somewhere in the same neighborhood of the movie poster:



The new cover art looks nothing like any previous Friday promo images....

My remark was towards the Menace cover. I don't have a problem with the one for Friday.
