Seeking "The Wild Life"

For years I've been trying to find a DVD copy of the 1984 movie The Wild Life." Evidentally it was only released on VHS and that is a shame! It
stars Chris Penn, Eric Stolz, Lea Thompson, Rick Moranis, Randy Quaid and others including Ben Stein.

It was made by the same writer and director (Art Linson) as "Fast Times At Ridgemont High."

The only thing I can figure is it has been held up from disc release because of music clearance?

Re: Seeking "The Wild Life"

It also came out on laserdisc, which can be a bear to find, but is a decent (fullscreen) presentation. Some of the boots out there are sourced from the LD. I can't figure why Universal never double packed this with one of the many 'Fast Times....' DVD re-releases.

One of those films that just may never see the shelf, but who knows.

it was actually written by Cameron Crowe. I don't think we'll see it anytime soon..if ever....

Re: Seeking "The Wild Life"

I'd buy it. I mean, Chris Penn in the lead had to have been stunt casting, but it's got a good cast (Rick Moranis as a douche!).

Art Linson also directed Where the Buffalo Roam, the underrated first effort to bring Hunter S. Thompson to the screen.

My Wild Life laserdisc is labeled on the back as "Home Video Version" exactly like my lasers of Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles...music rights were apparently an issue from the start

Re: Seeking "The Wild Life"

The soundtrack never made it to CD either, it was vinyl only. Wish I could get a decent rip of the theme as sung by Bananarama.

Re: Seeking "The Wild Life"

If you can find the Bananarama Sony Video 45 on VHS or Beta, it's got the video for the song on it.

CDs were out when this movie came out, but they didn't put out EVERY album on them yet.

Re: Seeking "The Wild Life"

Does anyone know which version airs on cable TV? I recorded it off of Starz or Encore recently but I don't know what the differences in the music would be.

Re: Seeking "The Wild Life"

Cable movie channels like you mention usually show the original unedited theatrical cut.

Check this IMDB link out. It lists two song replacements but not which two were cut.

Re: Seeking "The Wild Life"

I'll have to dig out my vhs copy of this. I think I taped it off "Movie Channel." I also have the vinyl for the soundtrack so I'll do a compare and see what version I have. It would be great to see this released in widescreen with additional footage.

Re: Seeking "The Wild Life"

Loved this movie.....I simply cannot understand some of the crap that makes it to dvd yet this title has never been released. I understand it may not be the most wanted title by the majority of dvd enthusiasts however it is worthy of a release.

Re: Seeking "The Wild Life"

I just watched this on Comcast On-Demand again recently.

A lot of Eddie Van Halen's guitar work went in to the next Van Halen album.

That movie reminds me of some good times.

Re: Seeking "The Wild Life"

You can find this online.....I am sure it is a cheap copy from VHS but hey...it would be better than nothing.
