I can finally upgrade my "import" VHS quality 8 disc set for the real thing! I loved this show as a kid.

interesting
i got some dvd's a couple years back and the quality is not that great
then i seen that Chiller was airing episodes a while back
quality still wasn't that great; i don't remember the PQ being that bad when it was back on in the FOX early days

Yeah, I hope it looks better than what aired on Chiller. Considering I was getting Fox OTA back then, it'll at least look better than that.
I don't have my discs in front of me, but I'm guessing Shout will work out whatever rights issues that Chiller had with the 8 or so episodes (including the pilot!) they never aired. If they don't, it could be a pretty dismal set.

And yet another blow is dealt to the horror convention bootleggers. Between this, Tales from the Darkside and Friday the 13th, all they've got left is Freddy's Nightmares.
Btw, nice cover art.

Knew nothing about this one. Might have to give it a go tho. The cover has a "Howling" kinda feel to it.

In what is probably the worst news I've heard in a while, "Werewolf: The TV Series will NOT be coming to DVD due to legal battles over some of the music used within the series. Yep. This sucks.
The webmaster of werewolftv.com just sent out the following to the members of the Werewolf Yahoo group:
"A manager has responsibilities that can cover tasks they like and don't like. For example, writing people up and/or firing them is part of their duty to perform and most people do not like that aspect of their role. As webmaster and forum moderator, I too share this burden of responsibility to do things I do not like.
It is with great sadness that I must deliver the devastating news that the Werewolf TV Series will NOT be released to DVD. The Shout Factory has had to abandon the project and give the series back to Sony.
The Shout Factory had to cancel the release because of two artists (which will remain unnamed) that would not play ball. Sony does not have the individual audio tracks, so they were unable to replace the songs, as the audio was mixed together. The two songs were featured over dialogue scenes that could not be cut. The Shout Factory's only option, even after spending a lot of time and money on it, was to cancel it and give the title back to Sony. If Sony had the audio tracks, it would have been easy to replace the two songs.
The Shout Factory and Sony are not at fault. This has happened due to the greediness of the music industry.
So, twenty two years after the Werewolf series hit the airwaves, the fan made copies of the original run and reruns will be the only testament of this great series along with the web site I have put together."

How did Shout Factory !NOT! see this one coming? Chiller wasn't allowed to air 8 episodes plus the pilot, (supposedly) because of music rights. So why SF thought they could skirt this for home video was just silly. And if it's only 2 artists (2 songs?), at worst they could just ADR the footage (even with different actors).

wow this is a bummer. I wonder why shout can release an edited version without the scenes? Was the dialogue that important to the overall series? Nothing a que-card or something couldn't replace?

It's amazing how music issues always wind up being what KOs a TV DVD release.

I was actually looking forward to this.
Why can't they dub the scenes and then used different music. There are ways around this that would not be that difficult.
If they can't get the orig. voices, use sound-alikes -- damn it, it's not impossible.

If it's two songs, why couldn't they just lop out the scenes or include cards to explain the dialogue that was taking place? That would be better than nothing since now this won't be coming out at all.
