Hopefully there is a BD release. Looking forward to it regardless. I would love it if the original music was restored but I doubt it.

Wow, this should be an entertaining commentary.
Hoepfully, Ferrara can shed some light on when he taught Keitel to smoke crack and everything else that supposedly went on behind the scenes.

I want to replace my old dvd. Since this was Artisan, which is now Lion's Gate, do you think LG will get it right? With the way they messed up Ironweed and Voyage of the Damned, Let's see how this will be.

When I heard the maybe-remake by Werner Herzog was in production, i knew we'd get an SE of this.
I've never seen it so I'll be picking it up.

Bad Lieutenant (along with Irreversible, and I may add Martyrs) has the distinction of being a movie I watch with a girl when I want her to break up with me.

That would be fantastic if a Blu-Ray with the original music was also released...

Now THAT'S a method I haven't tried. But you can bet your ass that I'm storing that idea for a rainy day. I'm trying to give one "the hint" right now (without being "the asshole" in the break-up), as a matter of fact.

I don't remember the details, but there is a Zeppelin song on the first press of the laserdisc that I guess was cleared, but once that Plant &/or Page found out, they didn't approve and it was subsequently removed. Any other issues I'm unaware of.

Wasn't there a remake of "Kashmir" in the soundtrack? I remember when I watched it (on DVD), hearing what I thought was a Zep song - but a poor re-do of it.

See, Puff Daddy wasn't the first rapper to ruin it.

In the film, Schooly D's "Signifying Rapper" uses a live guitar simulation of the riff from "Kashmir." However, Led Zeppelin's lawyers threatened to sue, and even though all the parties involved could have contested their claim (one cannot copyright a mere riff), they decided it would be too expensive to fight it, so all subsequent home video releases and cable airings have replaced the song with an acoustic recording of Ferrara himself singing a song called "Bad Lieutenant."

"Signifying Rapper" is heard in the theatrical version in four different places, just before the LT buys crack, during the rape of the nun (replaced with organ music that radically changes the tone of the scene), during the LT's walk into the hospital, and over the credits (replaced with the aforementioned Ferrara song). Another thing that will likely be missing from this SE is the additional scenes shot for the R-rated version, as that would require some further music rights clearance.
If you have a commercially manufactured DVD of Bad Lieutenant with "Signifying Rapper" intact, you should certainly put it up for sale on eBay with as high a BIN price as you wish.

I hope this is getting a BD release as well, but I doubt it. Also, given LG's track record as of late I don't have the utmost confidence that they won't somehow manage to fuck this up.
But, assuming they don't, I'll be picking it up.

I love Led Zeppelin and hate (c)rap music, and I just shook my head when I first heard it.
I bought my copy off of Amazon a couple of years ago for about $5.
