Such a sad, moving end to that one. Unfortunately, it was ruined for me by Martin Scorsese's documentary on Italian films, which is superb, yet (necessarily so I suppose) chock-full of spoilers.

^ I actually saw 'Case of the Grinning Cat' theatrically (which I enjoyed immensily), I thought it was a different Chris Marker film that just got released on DVD. I have owned 'Cat' for a while now on DVD, for the film and extras of course.


and yes, that same Scorsese doc ruined the ending for me as well, but the ending seen in the context of the entire film still had the intended impact on me.

Whoops, I meant Grin Without a Cat. Damn Marker and his feline fixations!

My Voyage to Italy. Both it and Scorsese's A Personal Journey Through American Movies are available from Netflix, and both are essential viewing - like a quick crash course in Film History 101.
