Do you own multiple DVDs of the same movie, tv shows, other etc?

do you own 2 or more copies of a movie or tv show?

Do you keep one to view and maybe the other as a collectors item?

This meaning you might have 2 copies of the same version of Wizard of Oz.

This is not counting double dipping where a new special edition comes out after a couple of months.

So who's going to be the first one to link this guy up? I'm too lazy to do it.

I can't even afford to buy one copy of all the titles I'd love to own .... so no, I'm not buying a second copy as a "collector's item" that someday will probably be worth about 1/10th of what I paid for it.

At this moment in time, I have both widescreen and pan & scan versions of The Best of Times, the Special and Ultimate Editions of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and the Kubrick Collection and 2-disc SE of Eyes Wide Shut. The former of all three will be gone once I make it back out to Half Price Books, though--that was the point of upgrading.

I have the FYE Exclusive steelbook of Transformers, as well as the Target Exclusive toy case. I couldn't decide which was cooler, so I just bought both, and opened the steelbook.

I just bought a second copy of WrestleMania XX. I picked up the amaray case version a couple of years ago because my original LE had falled apart. But I saw that K-Mart had the LE for $12.99, so I picked it up, and am keeping it sealed as a collector's item.

Nope.
I think the only true duplicates I have bought have been when I bought multiples, one for me and one or two for gifts.
I've got a few where I upgraded to HDDVD (hahaha) and haven't gotten rid of the SD yet, or it's a doubledip and both editions are worthwhile (Hellboy 2 disk I got for free from Blockbuster, Hellboy 3 disk with figure I got for 8 bucks).

No way. That' s what honestly copying them to back them up is for!

I have both versions of The Omega Man. It was originally pressed with hardly any supplements but was supposedly recalled before street date. When it was later re-released with more extras and a different cover, some stores (I think Borders in particular) were selling both versions.

I have the Toy Story films in the Ultimate Toy Box and the DTS re-releases.

I have both versions of Mallrats because some extras didn't carry over.

I have the double feature of Armitage The Third Polymatrix and Dualmatrix because I found it used cheap, and then I found the lunchbox version of Dualmatrix for $10 on clearance.

Re: Do you own multiple DVDs of the same movie, tv shows, other etc?

I have TWO titles I wound up purchasing twice, Volume 3 of Speed Racer and the Disney/Pixar Movie Cars. Both were for the same reason. They had Collectables in them! Volume 3 of SR had a Die-Cast Miniture of Speed's Mach Five Race Car, and When Cars first came out Best Buy had a special verson with Die-Cast Minitures of Lightning Mcqueen and three other Charactures from the Movie. Any Collector worth their salt knows that the best way to retain the Value is to leave the Collectables in the Box, Unopened! Therfore I bought one title to watch and one to put away as an investment. (In the case of Cars the version I bought to watch did not have the collectables in it.) As for the Version of Speed Racer that I had to open to use the DVD, I converted the Mach Five into a CHRISTmas Tree Ornament!

Re: Do you own multiple DVDs of the same movie, tv shows, other etc?

i have a few movies that have different dvd releases. I've sold some off, but kept these.

Toy Story Toy Box.

Star wars Trilogy- First has the bonus disc, second set is the Best Buy Tin

I do have 2 copies of the Oldboy tin. Bought 1 for me, and 1 to sell when it went OOP. Still have it.

i'm sure there are some more.

But even with over 1000 dvd's, I have yet to buy a movie thinking I don't have it yet even tho I do. I'm sure the day will come, as I now have to really think if I own something already.

Re: Do you own multiple DVDs of the same movie, tv shows, other etc?

Accidentally bought the same DVD at least a dozen times.

Bought a box set while having one or more of the exact DVD several times.

Received gifts of the same DVD a few times.

Bought multiple of the same DVD to get movie cash worth more than the DVD price many times.

Bought multiple of the same DVD to get variably packed exclusives a few times.

And if we're counting double dips or slight edition changes I'd have at least 500 examples.

No.

I have a lot of double dipped titles that I kept the old editions of for one reason or another, but I don't own 2 copies of the exact same disc for any film.

At best, I have The Punisher on Blu and the Directors Cut on DVD. And the 2 Van Damme quad features which has some overlap.

If you aren't counting double dips (done that several times and a couple of times I've held on to both), buying the R1 and international version of something (done that for several Jackie Chan, Chow Yun Fat and Jet Li movies) or Blue-Ray upgrades (have a couple that I still haven't gotten rid of the DVD version of, but probably will) I have exactly 1. The Hard Boiled Criterion version. Everyone was making such a big deal of it way back when, when I found one I picked it up (one of the few I've paid retail for too).

Re: Do you own multiple DVDs of the same movie, tv shows, other etc?

There's been a couple times where I bought a DVD, and it turned out I already owned it, in which case I would sell/take back one copy. Besides that, I would never intentionally own two identical copies of a DVD.

I'll sometimes buy the region 2 of a movie or tv show if there's no annoucement of a region 1 release.

Ditto on the Star Wars dvds. Dont even get me started on the number of VHS copies of them I have.

On buying stuff that I already have, it finally happened to me a couple of weeks ago. Saw a tv set on sale for cheap, and I picked it up. urns out I had already bought it, and gotten it for less, but just hadnt watched it yet. It was sitting in the to be watched pile.

As for exact same discs, I try not to. The only reason would be for some sort of Limited benefit, and it was for trade bait or something.

Skin or not, I won't pay $15 for something I'm going to take 12 seconds to jerk it to online.

Little Shop of Horrors-original version. One I bought on release day and another I found at a Suncoast that was closing and clearing out it's inventory (still sealed).

I own 2 copies of KISSOLOGY 1, 2, & 3. I owned 3 copies of each, but gave 1 set away for presents after taking the bonus disks.

Re: Do you own multiple DVDs of the same movie, tv shows, other etc?

I bought the first 3 seasons of Buffy then it became to expensive for me to keep up with.

Then later I got the Complete series, so I got those first 3 twice.

I sometimes buy the same DVD out of the Walmart Bargin bin when I forget I already had it like "Go"

I also have 2 copies of "Angel Of HEAT"

I also ended up with doubles of some of the Bond films trying to get one of each for myself & a full set of Roger Moore for my mom.
