well considering the dozen threads a year where everyone praises and eat up everything criterion puts out - we should let it slide for this rather shocking surprise release. like i said before - good for criterion. if getting the rights to release Button will secure the company some cash to move around to some more longer awaited obscure releases - im not gonna complain. the elitist in me wants to be outraged. but they DID release armageddon and we've done a good job taking that one with stride and a smile.

People that hates this movie, loved the freaking slumdogs, oh yes we want a movie to makes us happy and forget about our crappy life... not a long interesting movie that introduce us some amazing characters along the way, making us think what life is all about, Slumdog is the most overrated movie ever, Crash is a masterpiece next to it.

Thank you, Criterion I'll be getting a copy from your site, and another one from maybe amazon. Bring on more Fincher, Thanks.

People bitch and moan whenever Criterion releases a mainstream movie. They did it with The Rock and Armageddon. I even saw people bitching when they released Dazed and Confused. Criterion has to make money. They are a business after all. If they can release a couple of mainstream movies a year, to fund all the other releases they do, thats fine with me.

As for the Benjamin Button disc, I wish that Criterion would use the 1 disc art, instead of the crappy art they came up with.

Sorry, I know this is off topic but had to throw it out there-

How about a Criterion release of Fincher's "The Game" on the same day to coincide with this release?

Wouldn't that be awesome?

kingtopher 03-20-09 02:03 PM

Re: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 5/5/09

I'm kind of surprised that people would prefer the 1 disc art to the 2 disc art. The 2 disc is much more elegant and simple. Just taken straight from the theatrical posters. I like it a lot. There's no need to stick some screencap from a movie scene in the middle of the faces like that.

That's what I though as well. Also is a great time to release the rest of his films on blu-ray. It was pretty weird to me when I read ; from academy nominee, David Fincher, saying his name alone makes you excited, too bad from now on they will start with, from the director of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, academy award nominee....

Still Thanks again Criterion for this release.

This is quite pleasant surprise and really unexpected. The Criterion release is just too hard to pass. Yeah a Criterion release for The Game would definitely make my day!

will normal retailers like Target and Walmart have this Criterion? Best Buy will likely, but most others usually do not, but since this is more mainstreamed...

Re: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 5/5/09

I would imagine that they would. Target carries "Brazil" and "The Last Emperor," for example.

Re: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 5/5/09

The only Criterion I have ever seen at Target is FLiLV, which is weird because I have seen it in every single Target store it has ever been in. I wonder if they have some sort or weird deal that they will stock FLiLV in all of their stores.

I don't see why it wouldn't be available everywhere. This was a HUGE movie. More mainstream movies like Life Aquatic and Royal Tenenbaums were everywhere (I remember specifically getting the 2 disc Life Aquatic at Walmart).

In for the Blu-ray, btw.

DVD Beaver review: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDRe...on_blu-ray.htm

Video looks pretty good. The commentary and the 3 hour long documentary sound great.

It's still a shame that Brad Pitt isn't on the commentary. He's great on the Fight Club and Se7en tracks.

So excited about the Blu-Ray release

Also I got a look at the packaging today for the SD (I do inventory at my workplace) and it's a clear Amaray with slipcover for anyone interested.

Just a heads up, no commentary, extras or scene selections on the Netflix DVD rental.

$19.99 ($22.99 - $3.00 coupon) for a 2-disc Criterion SDVD is not such a bad deal.

Never got it from amazon....damnit! They just emailed that they're sorry to not be able to get it to me. I pre-ordered the thing in March..why is not in my hands now?

I'm personally disappointed they didn't do anything creative for the artwork (also not a fan of the keepcases where you have one disc on each side), but otherwise, a solid DVD. The standard transfer is amazing.

I'd love to see a Polish poster for this.

Just got done seeing the review for this set on AOTS. Kevin calls it the "Criteri-Yawn Collection".

Has anyone tried removing the "Director Approved" sticker from the slipcase? I want to see if it'll come off easily or if it will leave all the residue.

Comes off very easily with no residue.

I have never had such a hard time finding a slipcover in good condition. Every single slipcover at my Best Buy was either torn up, scratched, or falling apart. The slipcover I got was the best they had, and even it is in awful condition.

Yeah it comes right off without leaving any residue behind..thats really good too because most leave that sticky residue which is annoying and so ugly lol!

I got my copy of the 2 disc Criterion release at Wal-Mart yesterday for 24.96 and yes that is a darn good deal. I have two Wal-Marts and the other one wanted 29.96 so I just bought it at the one that had it for 24..lol!

Same for the standard def. dvd well at least mine anyways. I like it better than the flip tray thing as it's easier.

I was going to get the single disc for my mom for Mother's Day. Of course, it says in stock at Amazon on the listing page, but when you go to checkout, it says "in stock on May 7". I'm a Prime member, so even if I overnight it, it says estimated delivery May 11. ARGH!!!!

I know he praised the company, It's just that his pronounciation of "Criterion" was what busted me up......Or unless that's how it's always been pronounced as? :hscratch:
