Depending on how they wrap this up, I might purchase this since it's a one time purchase.

Re: Life on Mars (US Version) ----> 9/29/2009

So after hearing about this announcement, I've decided to drop Life on Mars from my Season Passes on my Tivo and get the DVD in September. I ended up falling 6 weeks behind and 1 episode was deleted because my DVR was getting so full. With the glut of other things I watch and with lots of seasons winding down, I decided that I had to drop it. So I will try to watch this in one big viewing when the DVD comes out instead.

I have enjoyed the show, but it just didn't become priority viewing, so watching it on all DVD should make up for it.

Re: Life on Mars (US Version) ----> 9/29/2009

IMHO, this is the best show on TV for at least the last three seasons. They had me at the pilot. I am just broken up that it has been cancelled. I find it difficult to delete episodes since I have watched each one at least twice - it is just an amazing show, with the best acting on network TV. Hopefully they can end the storyline properly with the episodes they have left. I will be buying this on day one - hopefully in blu-ray - does any one know if they are releasing this in blu-ray?

+1 The only way I'd own it. I mean I watched OTA in HD, why would I want the SD DVD?

Still I'd like to see the UK version on DVD to compare it to...

In watching the last two episodes of this show, I relaized that I really enjoy this show. I wish it was continuing. As long as they end it well, I will pick up this set.

I am really sorry that the show is being cancelled. I absolutely love experiencing the 1973 music, style of clothes, hair, etc. on top of a cast of great actors and fantastic plot. I'll definitely purchase the DVD on day 1. I'm not interested in the BBC version as much. I've come to know and love the USA version. I look forward to the DVD.

so will it be assumed the home video release might retain all the songs, or will they be replaced in any way. Let's hope they remain unaltered.

I find it interesting that the US and UK versions almost mirror each other in number of episodes, the US having 1+

I would count on Ringo, Stones, Judy Garland, The Partridge Family and Moody Blues getting replaced.

The real question is, if they are replaced will it be filler or legit songs from the 70's like on the UK release? It is ABC, they are usually pretty good with that stuff...in fact the last one I remember from ABC having replacements was Scrubs season 1.

At NY Comic Con, the creators said that broadcast & DVD were simultaneously cleared and that all the music should be on the DVD.

From http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2009/03/...r-alert-l.html:

There weren't clearance issues with all the popular music you featured?
ROSENBERG: We only cleared songs if they allowed us to use it forever, and it wasn't that difficult. Music is so important to us, both in this and in October Road.
Doesn't necessarily mean the music will be intact for the DVD set, but I read this with hope.

In order to get me to buy this, they'll have to provide an alternate ending to the final episode that isn't THE WORST THING EVER IN THE HISTORY OF TELEVISION.

Way to piss away everything good about your show in 5 minutes, David Kelley. Great job.

Re: Life on Mars (US Version) ----> 9/29/2009

Hey,

Two things. I stopped watching halfway through the season cause of my schedule. Was going to jump back in but this ending I'm hearing about seems so frustrating. I'll withhold final judgement, but this show does not look good.

Secondly, Josh, Kelley dropped off the project right way. He did the original pilot, with the first cast but that was changed when Boston Legal got picked up for the fifth season and ABC got the show in return. The producers for October Road ran the show from the new pilot to completion. Kelley just retained credits due to existing deals with ABC.

Wrong....David E. Kelley had zero involvement. He was initially asked to develop the show, but eventually handed it off to the Producers of October Road.

I stand corrected on the David E. Kelley point. I thought he was still involved in the show.

Regardless...

No, there is really no possible ending for this show that could have been worse than the one that aired this week.

Re: Life on Mars (US Version) ----> 9/29/2009

I think it failed in the United States for one big reason; Gene Hunt. DCI Hunt as played by Phil Glenister in the UK worked because he was physically intimidating. You believed that he could do real damage to Sam Tyler (John Simm) and that he could go off at any moment. Here in the US, it looked like Jason O'Mara could have broken the brittle bones of Grandpa Keitel. I would have loved to have seen the pilot with Colm Meaney as Hunt as he could have probably pulled off the intimidation factor against O'Mara. Oh well...I bailed after a few episodes because it was just so unbelievable. I did tune in to the last 10 minutes of the finale and was horrified by the radical/silly change to the BBC series ending.

Let's not start this again....
Keitel was a much better Gene Hunt..... END OF DISCUSSION!

The Valeyard 04-09-09 07:04 PM

Re: Life on Mars (US Version) ----> 9/29/2009

Keitel was NOT a better Gene Hunt. There is only one Hunt and that's Phil Glenister. Keitel's Hunt was too subdued. If he gave half the performance that he gave in Reservoir Dogs, then MAYBE.

Torchur317 04-09-09 07:09 PM

Re: Life on Mars (US Version) ----> 9/29/2009

I don't agree with that, Phil Glenister is beyond over-rated & he mumbles way too much....
Keitel is one of the best actors around & he's the perfect fit for Hunt....

Agree, but it wasn't just the acting. The UK Hunt got much funnier lines. Overall, the writing for the UK series was much better. That older policewoman was a scream.
