I heard the Mickey Rourke film Johnny Handsome is being re-released by Lion's Gate on March 3/09.

I wasn't able to find any major details about the DVD. Is it a re-pressing of the crappy version that came out in 2001 that looked like it was transferred from the full screen VHS tape?

Not sure if it's the same transfer but it's still Full Frame with no bonus features....

It's deplorable the way Lions Gate treats their catalog with such disrespect and indifference. Pan and scan in 2009 is absolutely outrageous. Instead of No Shame or New Yorker, why can't they go out of business? Their releases should be avoided at all costs.

It is the same Disc / only new thing its the slipcover.

of course it is - BUT Lionsgate did EXACTLY THE SAME THING with 'LOVE AND A .45' ...... it said widescreen on the front - and it was still a pathetic Letterbox non 16x9 transfer.

If you are region free there is a Walter Hill boxset with an anamorphic Johnny Handsome.

FS doesn't bother me, I'm still buying this....
I'm hoping the transfer isn't as bad as the original release....
LG still releases alot of older films in FS....

And "Freeway" and probably a bunch of others.

I would be so happy if we could get 16:9 versions of this and Extreme Prejudice.

Please stop this full-screen madness, especially when more and more people have been buying flat-screens.

This should be in the $2.99 bargin bin at Wal-Mart. Lion's Gate could have at least transferred the 1.85:1 widescreen version from the old laser disc.
At least there would have been some improvement!
