Re: Criterion and WB are in cahoots!
Any Truffaut is most welcome, and I'll take Before Sunrise and Before Sunset as well. Otherwise, I'll wait and see.
Hmm...Criterion Collection Austin Powers? (j/k, of course!) |

This is good news.
I saw that they mentioned Paul Schrader. It made me think: who owns the rights to Blue Collar? If that movie were to be released by CC it would make me all sorts of happy. I second that, if Criterion released that I'd be PSYCHED. Pryor and Keitel are fantastic. |

Re: Criterion and WB are in cahoots!
As for the Before Sunrise/ Before Sunset is also on the way. I am not sure who is releasing it. I saw proofs by designer Marc English (Austin based graphic artist who did the DVD art for both Dazed and Confused and Slacker). Based on the proofs (though no criterion logo on the set), it would seem that they are also being released by Criterion. |

Since Aronofsky had been pushing Warner to give The Fountain Criterion treatment, I wouldn't be surprised to see that one pop up.

Re: Criterion and WB are in cahoots!
Does any body remember hearing about a 6 hour version of Thin Red Line? I'd love to see this get the Criterion treatment, because the first release was pretty barebones...

Thin Red Line is from Fox.
Tonight, Criterion Collection exec. producer Kim Hendrickson spoke at the Wexner Center in Columbus, OH, as part of a "DVD release party" for Simon of the Desert. Hendrickson confirmed several releases for the coming year (none of which are really surprising, but still cool to hear straight from someone inside CC)... ...Furthermore, she said they’d love to do more Linklater and more Malick since they’ve established relationships with them and their studios, and that Paul Schrader was “fun and easy to work with." New deals have apparently been made with Warner Brothers and Fox. She didn't elaborate on what's being picked up, but when asked if it could include “classics from the 30’s,” she said yes (whatever that means). |
Re: Criterion and WB are in cahoots!
maybe Criterion can work out a deal with Warners/New Line to port over all the extras they had created for the laserdisc of Menace II Society and release that on DVD/bluray.

Re: Criterion and WB are in cahoots!
More than anything else I can think of right now, I would like to see 'One Eyed Jacks' and 'Ironweed' finally given the Criterion treatment.
|
Re: Criterion and WB are in cahoots!
I hope the Zabriskie Point rumor turns out to be correct - Soderbergh gives good commentary. I had planned on buying the WB disc during the May sale, but I'll just Netflix it now.

Re: Criterion and WB are in cahoots!
I'd pee myself for a Criterion Badlands and McCabe & Mrs. Miller. I love the idea for Pretty Maids All In A Row. I'd be in line for any of these.
The Fountain would be nice too. Really WB has so many great titles. |
Re: Criterion and WB are in cahoots!
Kusturica?Criterion?Kusturica?Criterion? Have they met?

Re: Criterion and WB are in cahoots!
Being that the OP specifically mentioned Malick, I just want to see The New World, Badlands and The Thin Red Line Criterion Blu-rays. That I would like.

Re: Criterion and WB are in cahoots!
Some good suggestions here particularly Blue Collar (even if it is Universal), Before Sunrise and Before Sunset

I thought you didn't know about that release. Criterion will most likely release the film later on.
I must have been thinking of Freebie and the Bean or Twilight's Last Gleaming. |
Re: Criterion and WB are in cahoots!
This is great news! Would love to see The Fountain on Criterion.
In fact, I've created a petition for a Criterion release of The Fountain; anyone interested can sign it here: thepetitionsite.com/1/fountain-criterion-petition |

I'd love Disney to make a deal with Criterion.
It would certainly do good to some of their oldest cartoons. |

It would certainly do good to some of their oldest cartoons. 1- Criterion does have a relationship with Disney - They released The Rock and Armageddon and Disney released last year both films on Blu-ray with all the Criterion extras. 2- Disney has done an excellent job releasing their old cartoons. The Treasure series is as good as it get and I highly doubt that they'll give Criterion the license of something they can release themselves. |
