I reviewed it. I don't have a link handy (see sig), but the featurette is indeed all-new and not from the Anchor Bay releases.
...a featurette called "Creating the Deadites" (21:29). I was a little worried that it would just turn out to be "The Men Behind the Army", the lone featurette from the endless Anchor Bay DVDs, but this is in fact an all-new featurette produced by Universal Casual fans who already own the Anchor Bay Special, Limited or Boomstick Editions can just skip this half-hearted attempt by Universal What about that Halloween candy? :consume: |

What about that Halloween candy? :consume: I have the John Carpenter: Master of Fear Collection, the Army of Darkness DVD, the Wes Craven Horror Collection and will eventually be getting American Werewolf in London BD and perhaps even AoD BD, so I'll be rolling in the free candy coupons. |

It wasn't entirely clear in the review - did you directly compare the HD/DVD combo standard def. transfer to this? They are different? This one is worse?
(sorry, maybe I just have to read it again) |
Re: Army of Darkness: Screwhead Edition!? DVD / BD - May 19, 2009
So, the Region 3 DVD is still the best version?

Re: Army of Darkness: Screwhead Edition!? DVD / BD - May 19, 2009
So which DVD has the best overall image quality then?
1. Region 3 2. HD-DVD combo DVD 3. Screwhead Edition ? |

(sorry, maybe I just have to read it again) I am guessing the transfers are probably the same. I would be shocked if Universal did a new transfer for this edition. That said, I distinctly remember being blown away by the way the Combo Format SD side looked, and I did not feel as blown away watching the Screwhead Edition.

The Region 3 is "director's cut" only, right?
If you want both cuts of the film, I would suggest buying this Screwhead Edition and the R3. Between those two releases, you should have supplements that match the Anchor Bay discs (plus the new Screwhead Edition featurette) and high-quality A/V on both. |

They have released so many times with this dvd...The never put enough new features though to make me want to get another copy. I have two copies of Evil Dead...the book of the Dead version and The Ultimate Edition...They had enough new stuff to make me want to get it again...Army of Darkness does not. In my opinion of course.
