In a few days I'll rent the old disc (I have a Hollywood MVP at the moment) and do screencaps of it and the SD-DVD side of the HD-DVD Combo disc for comparison.

I still have my 2 disc LE from AB. I like having both versions of the film but if this one has picture quality 10x better than mine then ill upgrade with a second copy. That or I will wait for the "She Bitch" edition or the "Klattu... Verada... N-[coughs] edition"

The "Book" editions were by AB. Universal is doing this release all on their own. I believe AB lost the rights, but I still have no verification of this. Either way, I'd say don't hold your breath for a "Book" of AoD, which is a shame.

I dunno where you heard this, but it isn't true. On the HD-DVD Combo Format disc, the DVD side has a transfer that is clearly remastered (and anamorphic, unlike the standalone disc from like 1998). I never had an HD-DVD player, but having seen at least the SD-DVD side, it's like night and day. It's really, really great.

Actually film doesn't have "resolution" since it's celluloid. The details are inherent in the film grain. Damn R3 MGM NTSC DVD looks like HD compared to the Universal and Anchor Bay releases. Compared to the superior MGM, the aforementioned look like they were from a few generations off VHS dupe of the film instead of a direct master.

Well, I have the Boomstick Edition, but I'll probably upgrade to the Blu release.

I think I will stick with my 2 disc LE forom Anchor Bay for the time being anyway. At least until I get a blue ray player.

I guess not, Amazon is taking pre-orders for the Blu-ray but doesn't have a release date on it.

Let's hope they held it back (likely timed to Drag Me to Hell's DVD/BD debut) to remaster the picture completely, if need be, and get the long cut on there.
