Da Vinci Code - Extended Cut (when??)

Has anyone heard if the extended cut of 'The Da Vinci Code' will be released on DVD/bluray around the time when 'Angels & Demons' comes out theatrically?

I've been wondering the same thing. For once I held off buying the original release in anticipation of it. I sure hope we get a very special edition with the original and director's cuts before the sequel (with moviecash too).

Very interesting. I had never heard that there was a possibility of a longer cut of the Davinci Code out there. If they were going to release it, my guess would be that teh OP's theory would be what they would do.

the longer cut has been available as an import for quite some time, I haven't bought it cause I would have thought Sony would do a tie-in release of said version with the prequel coming out later in the year.

Would a longer cut matter to this film? No offense to the people who liked it.

I'd be curious to check out the longer cut -- to see if/how it improves on the theatrical.

has anyone here actually seen the international longer cut? (I'm just surprised that Sony hasn't released said version to the US market.)

I always thought that this film needed even more exposition!

(I actually liked the car chase, he adds, in hopes to avoid a threadcap warning. You mods are the best!)

According to IMDb, this is what is in the extended cut:

Spoiler:
An extended version is available on DVD and is 26 minutes longer. The additional scenes include, among others

- Sophie threatening to deface 'The Madonna of the rocks' to aid her and Langdon's escape from the Louvre
- Flashbacks of Silas killing the other Senechaux
- Silas' escape from Prison
- Collet discovering the surveillance room
- Fache debriefing and apologizing to Langdon and Sophie
- A scene is which Sophie and Langdon discuss religion during the flight sequence
- Many verbal exchanges between characters in many scenes are extended.

According to DVD Compare - the R3 version is the best version. It is 174 minutes and has an English DTS soundtrack.

Since there is no Da Vinci Code BD yet, I wouldn't be surprised if pre-A&D we get a BD with a free ticket. Probably glued to the front like Men in Black, too.

I guess I am in the minority, in that I enjoyed the film. But these additions dont seem to add too much, of course I haven't seen them in the context of the actual movie. But just from the list they seem to be fluff.

I can't believe they would release this on blue ray only. With the way that dvd out sells blue ray at the moment, they would be nuts.

Re: Da Vinci Code - Extended Cut (when??)

As nuts as it is, it wouldn't be that far-fetched. This is a Sony movie and Blu-Ray was the format that Sony backed. But yeah, I really hope a standard release comes out.

Has there been a blu-ray only releae yet of a major hollywood movie? If not, I think it is strange that they would pick the DaVinci Code for the first one. Seeing as it is older, and not a huge hit.

Maybe that's just it. With a major release, they can't get away with only Blu-Ray because people would riot. The reason we probably never got the extended cut in the first place was because the Da Vinci Code didn't do that well domestically. So if we're looking at it from that perspective (which I guarantee you the studios are doing), if this movie is being released for the first time on Blu-Ray, they'll go all out; but leave the standard edition as it is.

Didn't do that well domestically??
Budget: $125 million
Domestic Total Gross: $217.5 million

So nowadays a movie makes almost $100 million over budget at the theaters, and it is considered not doing that well? Sorry, every movie cannot be Titanic or The Dark Knight.....
I am sure Sony has a different view of how the movie turned out to their bottom line, especially considering there is a sequel being released in a few months....
