Top Gear DVD Release Thread (Original BBC Version)

Recent news that S10 will be the first release on R1 media!

I've enjoyed other series more, but I'll take it!

I will definitely be buying this. Honestly I'm surprised it's so low at $40 MSRP.

An MSRP of $40 seems like a fair price. It's only ten episodes after all. So we'll be seeing this hopefully at $30 or below in stores?

Hmm hope the episodes are complete and such, but we'll see. Tempting to say the least.

Meanwhile MI-5 / Spooks are running for $70+ with the same number of episodes (maybe 11).

Never saw anything about the Polar Special on BR either!

I guess you could still get the R2 version: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Top-Gear-Pol...1898555&sr=1-5

Damn it. 500 minute runtime. I assume that means the cut versions have made the discs. However, 50 minutes a piece sounds long for an hour program on American tv. I wonder if 9 are shorter and the Africa Special is the full episode.

I saw this on the review section of the BBCA Shop website.

Top Gear 10 Content
by BBCAdmin

As an update to the info posted below by Frank.

The Top Gear 10 DVD features the international version of the 10th season, which contains approximately 40-minutes of content not seen on BBC America or BBC Canada.
I'm not quite sure how to take that. I'll probably just wait for a review before I decide to pick it up.

Re: Top Gear DVD Release Thread (Original BBC Version)

Seasons 11 AND 12 announced!

What's even better are that they are the UK cuts!

New and improved Top Gear DVDs
Some of our fans told us the first full-season release of Top Gear on DVD was a bit too much like a spin in a reasonably priced car. Well, our next two releases should register in the Cool to Sub-zero range. For starters, both Top Gear 11 and Top Gear 12 DVDs will retain the full 58-minute episode lengths known and loved by British audiences, and much envied by American audiences. Top Gear 12 will also include our first - and we hope not last -- Top Gear extras: commentary on the Vietnam special, deleted scenes, a director's cut of the Botswana special with commentary and more deleted scenes. Both DVDs are on track for early next year.

It's great that they're keeping the length in tact. Now I'd like to know if they're keeping the original music. The BBC version of the show uses outstanding music, but it was all replaced for generic crap for the U.S. release --- I assume because of rights issues.

Re: Top Gear DVD Release Thread (Original BBC Version)

I never bothered buying S10, because of the cut length, so I did not know about the music cuts.

Re: Top Gear DVD Release Thread (Original BBC Version)

I'm excited about these two releases. Check out yesterday's "Recently Announced Discs" blurb on the front page (www.dvdtalk.com) for proof.

(What's the point of writing the front page if I can't push titles I like?)
