Funny story...
The first DVD I bought was Batman & Robin almost 12 years ago (from Suncoast for like $24.99, crazy I know). I bought it to see if it would work in my laserdisc player, which it didn't and actually killed my player.

Yellow Submarine was my first DVD purchase, back in '99. Up to that point, DIVX had ruled the local shelves, and I wasn't going to get into DVDs if that was the future.

This is probably the 15th time I've answered this question over the years...
Tomorrow Never Dies (Silver case SE) in December of '98. And coincidentally my first DVD was my first bargain because the Wal-Mart clerk "mistakenly" charged me for the price of the bare bones edition. It was also the day I purchased my first player. Good times.

Embarassingly enough, the first DVD I bought was "The Up In Smoke Tour" lol. I was never a big fan of rap, but it came out exclusively on DVD and I liked Eminem (and Dr. Dre to a lesser extent). I bought it before I even had a dvd player, which turned out to be a PS2 at launch.
Shortly after getting the PS2, I went out and bought my second and third dvds...Saving Private Ryan and The Outlaw Josey Wales.

House on Haunted Hill (1999)
I didn't even have a DVD player at that time but was going to visit my sister soon thereafter and really wanted to see the bonus features.
I still love that movie and I don't care what anyone says. William Malone is a pretty cool guy too. Shared a couple emails with him.

thanks to Profiler: Phenomenon on 7/1/1999 for 22.72 at Computer City. This was before I even had a player and before DVD Talk. (I sold a lot of my DVDs several years ago and have gotten back into buying DVDs over the past year and a half or so. My replacement cost for Phenomenon was 1.07 -- used but in excellent shape at Blockbuster!)
I paid like $15 for Entrapment at VStore. Anyone remember VStore, Family Wonder, 800.com, Reel.com, Mass Music, North American DVD, DVD Soon, Hitmenow.com, Grooviemovies. DVD Express, DVD Advantage, Big Star, to name a few. Only place I buy from online now is Amazon, DD and sometimes DVD Planet and FYE. Times sure have changed.
In fact I found DVD Talk through a post at anther DVD Bargain forum. It was called moviebargains or something like that. I think I found it through google (or yahoo -- whatever I was using). Anyone else remember that forum?

Re: What's the 1st DVD You Bought?
First Dvd was Deep Impact for around $22 at Costco as I remember. Seemed an awfully lot cheaper then the Laser Discs I was buying back then in 1998-1999.
Now it repeats again with Blu Ray.
