I watched this from Netflix last night and thought it was great. It was the first time in a long time that I watched the movie and then immediately watched the entire movie again with the commentary.
I didn't listen to the "filmmakers" commentary but the "actors" commentary with Stiller, Black, and Downey Jr. (in character) was almost as funny as the movie itself. |
I saw a little bit of this movie in theaters and thought it was pretty funny. Tom Cruise was pretty decent in it as well. Does anyone have the black cover Blu-ray edition because it looks cool and if so how is it?

I love this movie, but I'm not too impressed with the 2 disc DVD. It's got a ton of content, but it's all pretty boring stuff. The 13 extra minutes didn't take away from the original film, but I didn't think it enhanced it either. And did they take out the scene when Flaming Dragon brings Ben into the camp for the first time?
Anyway, I think I should have bought the 1 disc instead. Does anyone know how they handle the Stiller/Black/Downey commentary if there are 13 fewer minutes? Just skip over those parts of is it a different commentary? Also, are these extras on the 1 disc different from the 2 disc? Dailies/Outtakes Stiller Improv I don't think the 2 disc has this stuff. |

Yep. I've watched it twice so far and haven't even gotten to the commentaries.
Especially fun when you notice new things the second time. Like the young hip-hop dude holding his rifle sideways when he come scharging out of a hut. That scene at the end with Stiller telling his friends to leave him with the "narcs", that he has a son, will be fine, follow by him running back underfire and with "his kid" in his neck and stabbing him was priceless. If Tropic Thunder would have had more scenes like the one mentioned above instead of scenes just based on dialogue, then it would have been really funny. Specially with Stiller and Black who are capable of physical comedy. |
Can anyone tell me exactly what the Target exclusive is?
|
Target exclusive is a Tropic Thunder patch, in the shape of the shield on the cover of the 2 disc. It's attached with stickum right on the package. That's what I got.

"Rain of Madness" was High-larious.

This has to be the fastest DVD release ever. It seems like it just came out in theatres, two weeks ago.

To give you an idea, it hit the theaters the week after Pineapple Express, but the PE dvd isn't coming out until early January - that's a two month difference. |

Theatrical release: June 20, 2003 DVD release: August 26, 2003 At the time it had the shortest theater-to-DVD window, I think. Some other movie may have beaten that by now. For the record, here's Tropic Thunder: Theatrical release: August 13, 2008 DVD release: November 18, 2008 |

So what would everyone recommend, 1 disc or 2 disc? What are the differences in special features? Is the extended version much better than the theatrical one?

Not to mention the great bunch of special features that are included.

When is Satan's Alley coming out? That looks like the surefire Oscar winner of the year! ;)

National Lampoon's Blackball was on DVD four days after it hit theaters.
