Help? Forgetting Sarah Marshall subtitle issue

Am I crazy?

Whenever I watch a movie with the audio commentary on, I put on the English subtitles so I can follow the film, especially if they start referring to it saying something like "I loved that line". (so I get really annoyed when there's a commentary but no english subs)

But on Sarah Marshall, if I put on the audio commentary and turn on English subtitles, it gives me the text of the commentary I'm listening to. There ARE subs to the film itself, but I can't put them on. This is one of those annoying discs where I can't change the subtitles during playback, so I can't force it to the movie subtitles.

Anyone know of a way to force a different subtitle track?

(p.s. this is my first post outside of the DVD Bargains forum, so if this is not the right place for this post, I apologize)

Okay, I finally solved my own problem!

If anyone cares:
You can't go back and change subtitles because there aren't different options on the menu for commentary subtitles vs film subs. So you have to start the movie playing with regular audio and subtitles on. Then during playback, press menu and go to audio options and turn commentary on. When you return to the movie commentary will be on but with the film's normal subs on.

Am I the only one who watches commentaries with the film's subs on? It seems to me like something most people woud want to do, yet studios sometimes don't make it easy or even possible.

I watch them that way, and agree that most/many people would want to do the same. Never run into a problem of making it work before, so not sure about your last clause.

I've not run into a problem like this before. 99% of discs don't even HAVE subtitles for the commentary, so if you turn on English - no problem, there's the movie subs. (and the few that have had them let me switch during playback, so no problem there, either).

In the past, the only probem I've run into is films with commentary but no English subs on the disc at all. So unless I wanna read along in Spanish or French, I've had to do without.

i just hate that you can't switch commentary on and off during movie, that you actually have to go back to menus. i hate when studios do this!
